How can I recover an AIM password for an old email account I used to use?

I need to recover an AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) account that is a user ID of my firstname and lastname. Nobody else has it, but the address I used when I signed up for it is an old email address I no longer have active or control. The only recovery system I see on AIM.com is one that sends the password to the email on record. I would like to verify the security questions I set up originally with the account and change my email address and restart using the IM again. Any ideas on how I can do this? I am leery of even trying to find out how to contact AOL support, and I can see no support area for AIM. Thanks
