Is there a site that will map a bike/walk/run for you?

Asked by ChocolateReigns (5624points) June 10th, 2010

I’m always taking my dog for walks, going biking, and walking with a bit of running in there. I’d like some new routes though. I’ve been biking in the same development that I nearly live in ever since I was little. I want a site that I could put in my address, and say how far I want to go, maybe even what I’ll be doing (biking, walking, walking with the dog, etc), and it’ll give you a few routes you could do (oh btw not on trails, on regular roads). So is there anything like that out there?

How about this one, MapMyWalk? Would it work?

RunningMap.com is my favorite.

Gmaps Pedometer is another.

@lillycoyote That’s kind of confusing.
@jaytkay That Running Map one is nice! I like it! Thanks :)

@ChocolateReigns Sorry! That’s what I get for just Googling something and answering when I don’t really know anything. :)

Google Maps lets you switch the default driving route to either public transportation, walking or biking. It’s quite good at walking routes. Here in Boston, if it is quicker to cut through the walking trails of the Boston Common than walk strictly on the street sidewalks, Google will go by the shortest path. Note the little car, trolley, walk, bike icons right above the 2 address entries. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=City+Hall,+Boston,+MA&daddr=North+End+Park,+Boston,+MA&geocode=FdRahgIdH7rD-ynLLDf-hHDjiTFoaUDR_WvCIw%3BFQh-hgIdNcvD-yH87dc9zRblhw&hl=en&mra=ls&dirflg=b&sll=42.367534,-71.054597&sspn=0.003214,0.004823&ie=UTF8&z=16&lci=bike

Also, you can click anywhere on a marked route and drag it to adjacent streets or trails to reroute if you wish, and you get the exact mileage of the route.

www.dailymile.com – I’ve been using this one for a few months now. It is a social networking / training tracking. You can actually log walks / runs / cycles / etc. and store routes and maps. It’ll allow you to enter calories, miles, times, and more. It then shows you summaries of your and your ‘friends’ activity.

I’ve also used www.mapmyrun.com for just mapping routes.
