What would happen in the world where we've successfully domesticated all wild animals?

Asked by Your_Majesty (8235points) June 11th, 2010

Imagine we as human beings have successfully domesticated all wild animals(including lion, tiger, bear, etc). We made them lost their predatory instinct(don’t say it’s impossible, but as I said, just imagine) and they’re no more than our nowadays lovely pets but just in bigger size(for some). So,what do you think would happen to our world if we’ve already reached this state? Do you believe your government will allow such creature as pet? Finally,if you ever interested to have one, what kind of animal(former wild animal) you’ll take as your pet? And why?

Black Panther I think they are gorgeous animals. Though I would hate to see wild animals not be wild anymore…even my MIL would be boring to be around if she were tamed.

Our proposed Health Care Plan would look a little different!

The answer to your question can be found in H.G. Wells’ ”Men Like Gods.”

I have this image of a “stray” bear digging through all the garbage on garbage day… what a mess…

We would be very, very busy taking care of them. In the wild they take care of themselves.

We would not domesticate all the wild animals, because we have no need of them. Domestication comes from need for their services or meat.

I hate to even imagine this. We aren’t even properly taking care of the ones we have domesticated. Let’s hope we never run out of better things to do!

We would destroy them much faster than we currently are. We would gather them up, breed them for profit and soon grow tired of the novelty. Then, we would turn them loose in the streets and they will starve because we have domesticated them and removed their predatory instincts.

@chyna What a beautiful image. That says it all.

“Take your stinking paws off me you damned dirty ape.” Would be one possible outcome.

It doesn’t bear thinking about. Everything @Silhouette said. I find it ludicrous when people want wild animals as pets. Then when tragedy strikes (as has happened many a time) it’s hard not to think “what did you expect”? :/

@marinelife OK I agree with you. But as we know that’s part of what ancient people did in the ancient world of dependent and mutual symbiosis. We now,as part of nowadays ever changing and sophisticated society can do many revolutionary things. You probably have already known that some people(breeder) have already bred some wild animals such as Caracal,Serval,Cheetah for pet/entertainment purposes. Please note that not many people can own these domesticated(or half-domesticated if you have any doubt) creature and they aren’t really considered as pet for most people but the point of this is that we human can domesticate almost every creature we want to domesticate and it won’t be limited for plain/vital purposes. And as I said, again, please just imagine the possibility.

why doesn’t no on tell that the ecosystems would crash and the planet will become like Mars and we will die?

Your_Majesty's avatar

@Christian95 I believe that was in another thread.

I think you are confusing being tame with being domesticated. We don’t control the breeding of all tame animals.

@Christian95 There is nothing holy or special about nature. Left to its own devices, “Mother Nature” is blithely indifferent, producing more devastation and extinction than humanity could ever hope to accomplish. The original cyanobacteria metabolized such vast amounts of carbon dioxide into oxygen that they permanently poisoned the entire atmosphere and resulted in the extermination of the vast majority of life on Earth. Mass extinction events occur regularly every few hundred million years, with smaller crises occuring constantly. Humanity consciously manifesting the Will to Power by domesticating the Earth is no more or less moral than allowing random chance to kill off species and alter the entire ecosphere willy nilly.

If we are ever to emerge from our cradle and inherit the stars, we are going to have to grow up and prove we are capable of taking conscious, rational control of our Earthly environment as good stewards, becoming as gods as we remake the Earth in our image.

I would say, anything that’s “wild” would be domesticated, such as: good time, sex, singing in the street just for fun, laughter to tears, bachelor parties and so on…

We’d get lost in the pet food section of WalMart.

That would be sad if we made animals more like human beings. Lol.
