Any bloody movies that aren't really scary?

Asked by Draconess25 (4461points) June 13th, 2010

My girlfriend hates scary movies. She hates anything that makes her jump. And anything suspenseful. And anything with bugs.

But she loves bloody, gorey, rip-your-head-off kind of movies. A lot of violence & killing.

And we need some movies to watch together.

How about Once Were Warriors ? I’ve just been watching clips from it for my film class. Plenty of violent action, but not a scary horror or thriller picture.

In fact, two others from the “ideology” unit might fit the same general description: violent and bloody, but not make-you-jump movies: Z and Battle for Algiers. And there’s always the films of Sam Peckinpah, “Bloody Sam.”

Maybe try the Kill Bill movies.

@ubersiren We’ve seen them. Loved them.

Saw wasn’t too scary.
The Machine Girl
Oldboy
Audition
Braindead (insanely gory)
I Spit On Your Grave
Cannibal Holocaust and Cannibal Ferox – you may not be able to find them at a video store, but you can get them on Netflix.
I don’t remember any of the From Dusk Till Dawn‘s to be that scary.
The Hills Have Eyes
Ichi the Killer
The beginning of Martyrs was a little scary, but if you can get past it, the film is phenomenal and definitely gory.

I would go with Braindead for sure. Have fun! =)

The Story of Ricky, possibly the best martial arts movie next to Enter the Dragon.
Ebola Syndrome is another good one. It’s bloody, it’s gory, it’s hilarious and maybe a little disturbing, but it is FUCKING AWESOME.

@Vunessuh: I think what we’d consider not scary isn’t what most people would… I was going to come here and say that most bloody movies aren’t scary, but they all have startle scenes and her girlfriend doesn’t like them.

Vunessuh's avatar

@poofandmook That’s why I think they should watch Braindead aka Dead Alive.
Most gory, bloody movies are going to startle you at least once no matter what, but Braindead is probably the goriest movie I’ve ever seen, however pretty damn far from frightening. Just entertaining and funny as shit. :)
Oh, and Oldboy. Not scary at all – just a psychological mindfuck. It wasn’t that gory, but the movie was so good it didn’t really matter. Same with Audition.

Regardless, what people find scary is pretty subjective, so it’s difficult to hit the nail on the head for specifically what they’re asking for. I would just take the suggestions and read reviews. :)

Monty Python and the Holy Grail
The Wild Bunch
Conan The Barbarian
Excalibur
Shoot Em Up
Holy Weapon

The VHS version of Maximum Overdrive is gory as all hell; if you can actually find it somewhere. It’s considered comedy more than horror, so it shouldn’t be too bad.

It’s hard to find movies that don’t fit the jump tactic and suspense criteria, unless you go for especially gory action flicks. Not sure what to suggest, really.

And damn j00 Vunessuh, don’t make anyone watch Cannibal Holocaust lmao XD

I would have to say the Saw series, not scary at all.

Texas Chainsaw Masacre, all the Saw movies and all the Hostel movies.

can’t believe I didn’t even think of Saw until now.
