don’t do it if your freaking out.

I’ve gotten my lobes pierced several times, and while there is a pinch that may last for a short while, it doesn’t hurt too badly. In my opinion, wearing clip on earrings is just as painful or more painful than just getting your earlobes pierced, so if you’ve worn them, then you’ll have an idea. The pain doesn’t last too long though, and you honestly should be fine as long as you make sure to turn the studs, clean them everyday, etc.

At some places you can also ask them to do both lobes at the same time, which I always did, as I find it much easier. That way, it just goes quicker and less anticipation is involved.

Take your ear lobe and pinch it between your thumb and forefinger, then let go. It’s a pretty good indication of how much pain is involved. It’s the anxiety before and the piercing gun shot noise that is the worst part.

Should you go through with it, just follow the healthcare instructions closely so that you don’t end up with an infection. This rarely happens though…look at all of the people with pierced ears, and how many people who have gone back for more. The most painful part of it for me is when I lose a valuable or beloved earring.

And @jojo22 has offered up good advice. If there are any reservations, just don’t do it. You can always have it done later.

When I got mine pierced, it didn’t hurt at all. Just a quick sting and it was over.

Na, it happens so fast.

I had someone hold my hand during the process. It helped with the anxiety.

I yelled and jumped off the chair at the mall. They poked 2 holes at the same time. How could it Not hurt?

It hurts for a minute. Then you have to take care of the new holes for a while. The good thing about pain is that it makes you realize you are strong. And the second good thing about pain is you can’t remember it once it’s gone—you know you had it, but you can’t “re-feel” it. So, if it’s brief, it’s really not a problem. The fear, though, that’s what you have to get a handle on. Deep breathing might help—it calms you down.

Please don’t go somewhere that you’ll have it done with a piercing gun

It really isn’t painful to have your earlobes pierced. It’s more startling than anything.
