How do you say "fluther" in portuguese?

Asked by Flavio (1111points) June 27th, 2010

I learned recently that the name of this site, fluther, means a group of jellyfish. I have not been able to figure out how to say fluther in Portuguese. Anyone know? How about other languages?

@Dr_Lawrence Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. I’m Portuguese and the word “fluther” doesn’t exist. We don’t have a specific name for it. We just refer to it as “um grupo de alforrecas/medusas/águas-vivas”, which means “a group of jellyfish”.

@bvdshec17
I found it in two different English to Portuguese translation dictionaries.
One even provided the pronunciation.

Why would I make it up and how on earth would there be a pronunciation for a non-existent word?

Still, I do not speak the language. Perhaps someone could check the Portuguese equivalent of the OED (Oxford English Dictionary) for an authoritative answer?

Most average English speakers would probably assume fluther was not a real word.

@Dr_Lawrence I tried to hear it but I got the following message on the site:
“Sorry, our TTS Voice service is
currently experiencing a high load.”
Maybe it’s just an excuse to not pronounce the word…
