Flutherite Has-beens: What did you used to be?

Asked by unused_bagels (1749points) July 6th, 2010

Hypocrisy Central recently asked would you rather be a has-been, or a never-was?

In the responses, some jellies admitted to being has-beens. All right, I’ll bite. What did you do to that was awesome, and why don’t you do it anymore?

I used to be full time awesome but it got tiring. I have a family, a yard, two dogs, a cat…Man I just can’t handle the spot light like I used to.
Now’a’days I just don’t have time to roll around town with super models and drink mimosas from endless hot tubs and eat cherries out of the hands of hand models. Yacht parties, backstage with GnR, pantless parties with porn stars…....yawn,
lesigh .Life used to be rough. A man’s gotta grow up sometime and learn to enjoy the little things. So now I am just part time awesome.
Okay, this used to be me. The names and everything have been changed for label reasons
We had a great release on Itunes, top 100 in less than a week and stuff. Scheduled to play MTV Beach House Europe. Blah blah blah…I’ve stood on the roof of a very major record label building in downtown LA and drank champagne, rode in limos with some crazy people and watched a very important figure snort cocaine off of a pair of fake breasts. I could go on and on…..I don’t look back. I love my life now. The major record labels will fuck you in a second if you don’t bend over backwards. I can’t even stand to listen to the radio because of what I learned. I don’t wanna be a debbie downer though.

I used to be really gung ho about just doing things I knew I wouldn’t be successful at just for the sake having of the experience. I tried out for dance team in high school. I knew I wasn’t going to make the team and didn’t. It was fun going through the trial process with people, though.

Warning: Brag Alert: I didn’t answer the other question, but over the years I have been; a stage performer with my Dad’s magic act, a costumer, a tour escort, an emergency Foster care provider, and a volunteer for the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps. I received awards for each of these activities. I also received an award for a needlework picture I entered in the Ventura county fair, and a quilt contest. I have won several awards on various Question and Answer sites.

I don’t participate in the other activities because my health had deteriorated, and I no longer have the energy. I don’t win as many awards on the question and answer sites, because I spend most of my time on Fluther, which does not offer them. I still participate on one site that offers cash and prizes, and I receive an award from them every year.

In my prime, I hardly ever drooled on my shirt and I could tie my own shoes by myself.

I’ve been a music teacher, church musician, songwriter, volunteered tirelessly for a non-profit, music promoter, and hung out with some crazy musicians….saw some awesome Dead shows and loved dancing on those lawns!! It gave me happiness and fulfillment.

I was a damn good athlete. Competitive gymnastics was my sport of choice for nine years. I also played soccer, volleyball, softball, football, swam, dove, and cheerlead during that time. Sports and school were my life. I don’t do any of those things anymore, but I’d love to do them just for fun.

I competed in both Summer and Winter Olympics over 30 years ago. Minor events, no medals.

@Facade then why don’t you? It took me talking to a therapist to figure out how I could get back into art.

Find a way you can start doing the sports you like, but make it easy and simple and convenient, like when you first started out. I assume you played in backyards or parks with friends first? Try that, don’t let your childhood go to waste like I did for 6 years.

@stranger_in_a_strange_land
Care to tell me which events, i am really curious?!

unused_bagels's avatar

how is anything in the olympics a minor event?

stranger_in_a_strange_land's avatar

@rebbel 50m Pistol and Winter Biathlon.

@unused_bagels I think you’d have to Google both of those to know what they are. That’s minor.

Facade's avatar

@unused_bagels I don’t think it went to waste. It was good for me back then. I had structure. I’m pretty much out of commission right now because of all the physical training, but maybe one day =)
