Who is the singer of this oldies song?

Asked by elhaha1001 (383points) July 12th, 2010

I have had this song for about one year and I thought it was Bill Doggett’s Honky Tonk (that’s what it says on the title) until I check on Wikipedia and I realized that Honky Tonk is actually an instrumental song.

So whose song is it? I’ve checked google for it’s lyrics but there are no positive results.

Please download the song here. Really need help

Sorry- I’m not downloading something without knowing you better, yet I’d like to try and help. Can you give me the lyrics and I can go from there? Also- the specific genre; is it honky tonk/ country/ old time/bluegrass.

@gemiwing it’s a rock n roll song, seems like either from the 50’s or 60’s.
the chorus goes
“Now when you hear the <what> honk
you got to do the honky tonk
he blows the music on his side
and everybody answers back
you got to do the honky tonk
you got to do the honky tonk”

I can’t find it on google. It’s weird but true

I think it is Bill Doggett.

Here’s the song on Youtube and better yet the video shows the record label “Bill Doggett – Honky Tonk – (Vocal)”

@jaytkay wow, so it’s really true that it’s Bill Doggett’s song. It’s so funny that I can’t find it on google.

When I tried to search Bill Doggett on wikipedia, there seem to be no complete information of the song. they only said it’s an instrumental song.

You realize that actually the quality of the song is a bit low, so I am now trying to search for a better quality of the song, but it seems impossible too. thanks

Here’s a better quality recording with Tommy Brown.

@PandoraBoxx wait, so actually it is a vocal by Tommy Brown and the instruments by Bill Doggett?

The description of the video says “A somewhat rare vocal performance of “Honky Tonk” performed by Tommy Brown, one of the all-time great rock and roll instrumental recordings by the Bill Doggett Combo from August of 1956.”

Rrrr.. I’m so confused

Here’s an instrumental only version. by Bill Doggett.

Yes, it appears that way.

Here are instrumental covers by The Ventures and by Sean Costello

Here’s a link about King Records in Cincinnati.
