If it was the Enoch Powell speech I remember when it was made. I wondered what all the fuss was about at the time but I was young. It was a speech against mass immigration into Britain and the subject is still very topical. The British government has recently cut back on the numbers allowed in. Incidentally the phrase ‘rivers of blood’ didn’t actually appear in the speech but the word blood did in a quotation he used. I am sure it was put in deliberately as Enoch Powell was very shrewd and calculating. He knew the impact the word would have and he was right. The media uproar was perhaps greater than Powell had anticipated as he was sacked from the government as a result.
