How do you take care of your nails?

Asked by CherrySempai (1139points) August 6th, 2010

(That is, if you do in fact take care of them.)

My fingernails are so short all the time. Whenever I try to grow them out, they either break or get a small cut in them so the whole thing just peels off. I keep a nail-filer on hand, but I think maybe my fingernails are just really weak?

So, people with nice nails, how do you go about taking care of them?

I like to keep mine in a nail apron.

I’d love to keep my nails short and clean but not too short so I just use a good nail clipper to trim them and lightly file them to obtain the shape I want them to be. I soak my hands in warm water and then use a cuticle shaper to make them look clean.

If your nails are brittle, you should make sure you are eating healthy or you can use Biotin as a supplement.

School days/times I always do my nails on Sunday it’s a habit that I have. I usually take out the old nail polish, soak my nails in salty water for some minutes, dry and apply cuticle oil and smoothen my cuticles. Clean my nails with nail polish remover and then start with a base coat, coat-coats of the nail polish I want to make as a base, then mostly I would kinda do polka dots or something like that.

I also file my nails in the square shape!

My nails are usually long although, once they get too long I cut them back and start again. I guess I am just lucky to have strong nails that don’t break easily. I have never been one to boite my nails and I file them regularly. I also keep them painted which may add to their strength.

I have the same problem but luckily I have longish nail beds… there’s this stuff called nailtiques and it’s supposed to work great but you need to apply it daily (I think). I get weekly manicures because I can’t keep my nails nice without them being fixed weekly, but it’s kind of an unnecessary expense. try nailtique first and if it doesn’t work, try getting weekly manicures for a while.

I just broke one yesterday, so right now it’s being taken care of with a band aid. Normally, I have a hand and nail lotion, nail clippers, etc.
