Why does facebook not save your older posts from when you first signed up?

Asked by AshlynM (10684points) August 7th, 2010

I literally spent 2 hours clicking through my older status updates, looking for my very first post when I signed up for the site.

I did NOT find it. Is there a reason facebook doesn’t save your old updates? Seems to me with all the crap they have on their site, you’d be able to find your first post.

Because data retention costs money. The sheer number of users they have and the number of posts they have make retaining every single item impractical.

Lucky you. I spent 2 hrs yesterday deleting my entire FB history, logged back on today and most of it is back. :0
