I know it’s been a while since this question was asked, but I just had to respond for a specific reason…

I JUST moved to New Britain 2 months ago, and foolishly, had no idea Walnut Hill Park even existed. Turns out I live half a freakin’ mile from the place.

Long story short, I just went there today, and it was awesome! The asphalt ring that surrounds the park is pretty much exactly a mile in length (I asked some locals, then paced it with my car to confirm). It’s mostly smooth, with some gradual hills and valleys. I went for 7 laps! (had to brag of course)

Other places I know of to rollerblade:

The East Coast Greenway, which goes through many Hartford-Area towns. Great starting point: Charter Oak Park in Manchester, CT. This one’s a bit of a challenge. Some of the areas may be covered in dirt/leaves during certain times of the year, and there are some VERY steep hills. But, there’s zero car traffic, so I wouldn’t call it unsafe.

Tod’s Point in Old Greenwich, CT. An absolutely beautiful park with nearly flat, nearly perfect asphalt. The drawback: Unless you’re a resident of Greenwich, it’s expensive to get into the park, even just to park your car.

Cove Island Park in Stamford, CT. It’s a small ring, probably about a half mile long. It’s not the best place, but it’s flat, and parking is free most of the year if I’m not mistaken.

I can also attest to the East Bay Bike path… also awesome! I have been several times starting at the far end in Bristol… no experience on the Providence end. I’d give it a B+ condition-wise… a few crappy parts, but you’d enjoy it.

Thanks marinelife! You’re a godsend!
