What does FAU stand for on a floor plan?

Asked by gtreyger (1397points) August 9th, 2010

We are looking at floor plans of different houses, and some of them have the letters “FAU” near the hot water heater. Doesn’t really make sense for it to be a faucet, since it is in a closet. Any guesses (hopefully educated) are greatly appreciated.

Could this be it?

Forced Air Unit – it heats the house by blowing hot air throuh a series of ducts.

Thanks, @Lightlyseared. I learned something.

FAU I agree with lightlyseared however if the letters are larger then most it could be initials to the owner or location.

It must be the Forced Air Unit. Simply because it is right next to a water heater and I am not really sure what else it could be. I guess we’ll see about a month from now when I get to move in. I’ll keep you guys posted!

It’s Forced Air Unit, which heats up air and blows the heated air throughout various vents of your house/unit. In other words known as a heater.
