Web-based business networking -- Valuable or worthless?

Asked by Austinlad (16323points) August 19th, 2010

I’m not looking for a job, so this is purely an academic question: Have any of you ever gotten a job interview, let alone a job, through LinkedIn or other Web-based business networking service? I get a steady stream of requests to connect to other business people, but I’m skeptical about the value of doing it online.

I haven’t used LinkedIn except to connect to former connections, but I have a friend who has used the network to find someone (who knows someone she knows) to contact.
