Yes, its called a frisbee. :-) Why tie them down?

I have found the older they get the more complex it gets for them.

My mom just got a laptop. She is 76. Go with the largest screen. Hers is 19”.
If you do go with a larger then normal screen you wont be able to avoid cost. But figure around $600.

I recently did this for my dad, too. We got him just a regular, basic HP with a larger screen. I made the icons as large as possible and removed any that he won’t use.
I found that a USB mouse was easier than the touchpad for him.
He wanted to be able to Google things and use Facebook to see what the family was up to, so I put those two bookmarks on his browser.
I hope this helps!

I recently asked a similar question (link below). You may want to look at the various responses it received (ignore the debate about iPad)—

I would be very wary of the Hewlett Packard 9000 series. They are great laptops but have issues with the motherboard burning out due to overheating. Good luck to your father!

There are special computers being developed for seniors like the Go computer I have not actually seen any of them so I don’t know if any of them are actually catching on.

There are several good options now for Seniors. The WOW computer has a touch screen and a stationary bar down the left side for easy navigation. They use a linux system so you can’t add anything but it does the basics
A Plus Senior Computer uses Windows 7 with a simply interface. It seems like a good way to go so seniors can add the games or perhaps a greetings card program. They also come in both a desktop and laptop models that I think Seniors would like.

My mother had 2 stokes within the last year so she was always getting confused with her old computer. We got her an A Plus Senior Computer (www.aplusseniorcomputer.com) and she just loves it. It’s setup quite nicely with big text and a one page senior place that offers her quick places to go and email all in one place. We were thrilled that she could keep up with the computer.
