Can you skip drill or request off?

Asked by chelle21689 (7907points) August 24th, 2010

What if it’s a 3–4 day drill or an FTX? Is there any way you can request those off? Just wondering because my boyfriend is trying to come visit and I know it’s not a good excuse but I hear that you can request off and make up for it. I’m not sure if it’s true.

It just depends on his unit. Most reserve units have something set up for the reservists to request permission to miss the drill and make it up at a later date. He just needs to talk whoever he normally reports to. The sooner he does it, the better. Some things they are not allowed to miss.

Oh, thanks. He’s trying to make it to my sister’s wedding so I’m hoping he can go. My sister keeps bugging me about it lol.

He will probably not get out of FEX. This exercise happens only so often and the number of people trying to get out of it already blows the mind. His best bet is to put in for leave and see what happens.
Most likely you’ll be at the wedding and he’ll be sweating his ass off, digging trenches and wearing his MOP gear.

Not letting many out of MOP or NBC FTX’s. At least not 7 years ago. .Important stuff happens on some of these drills and he shouldn’t miss it. I’m sure everybody will understand if he can’t get out of the drill. Especially in these times.
