Is something wrong with my eyes?

Asked by jm5225 (253points) August 24th, 2010

Lately they have felt very irritated, the my lids feel tight sometimes and when I move them they feel uncomfortable. They will randomly burn and tear up and to me appear a little off white and slightly red(very slightly) but I think they should be clear and white. I don’t think it is allergies, it feels very strange and they will randomly bother me. Right now they are fine but sometimes they get pretty bad. Does this sound like anything serious? It is both of my eyes but primarily my left eye.

Maybe you have dry eyes?

I would take them to a doc.It could be blephoritis – inflamation of lids. They could give you drops. When it is in remission – you just have to keep your lids clean with baby soap. But do not do anything before you see a doc. Good luck

Do you have contact lenses in?

Do you have pus? Wake up crusty? That’s pink eye. I would use drops and see the doc.
Here is a site mayoclinic.com That has a symptom checker.

Eyes are just to delicate to be diagnosed by the unseeing public. If you can’t get to a doctor, sometimes a pharmacist can be helpful. I had a serious dry eye problem, but my symptons were not like anything you are describing..

You could have allergies and you do not provide any information as to your life, what you do where you live and anything new in your life that could be affecting your eyes. As you get older you body has been exposed to so many allergens that a cumulative effect can trigger eyes to become irritated. There are so many sources probably in the range of a hundred or more possibilities that only an allergist specialist could have a prayer of helping you identify. Sometimes an allergy relief eye drop can help you for the short term.

I have been taking zinc and fish oil lately…the zinc has been making my skin less oily(thank god) so perhaps it is drying my eyes out too? Also I did use tanning beds often when I was younger and occasionally do now…perhaps this is a cause?

I will soon but I dont get my benefits until next month so I was just looking for some ideas, ive never heard of such symptoms or really have an education about problems that can suddenly occur with eyes except infections and I don’t believe it is an infection as there is no pain and it’s not constant.

Have you tried just using regular old eye drops when it happens? Did it help?

I have the exact same thing! It comes perhaps twice a week, its been going on for years, one day they’re hot all around the eyes (particularly the left too!!), and the next day they’re normal. I find they just feel hot on my eye lids and sensitive to light, a little watery and irritated. On my left eye it’s like there’s one small dry patch but eye drops dont work and I dont have any sinus problems. The best thing I’v found to work is an eye moisturiser for sensitive skin, I put this on before bed. I find that make-up can make it worse, and that it more happens at work (I use a PC all day), but then randomly on the weekend too. My sight is perfect and it doesnt effect my vision, however sometimes at its worse they can become a little hazy.
