A family member? A celebrity? Who do you get told that you look like? Have you ever used it to your advantage?

Neve Campbell and I’ve been told by a few exes, Kate Beckinsale.

I can really see Neve through the eyes. Our coloring is different, though. I’m fair and have blue eyes, not brown.

Curtis Granderson.

Everyone compares one guy I know to Matthew Broderick (circa the Ferris Bueller era.) I think it’s a compliment, but he doesn’t agree.

I also know two sets of identical twins and while others cannot tell them apart, I think they are fairly easy to distinguish. One set used to trade places in grade school often and were never caught.

SundayKittens's avatar

@Blackberry Looked him up, I can see that!

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

I’ve been told that I look just like “Rosebud” from “Citizen Kane”.
I think they just want to take me for a ride.Vile flirts ;)

aprilsimnel's avatar

I get either Rosario Dawson (plausible from certain angles/photos), Lisa Bonet (uh, not at all!), Janeane Garafalo (I can see it), and on that My Heritage site where you upload a photo of yourself and they compare you to celebrities, James Spader and Neve Campbell come up most often on the different pictures I’ve used.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Fiona Apple.
In fact, just a few days ago a friend of mine sent me an email with my own picture and a similar picture of Fiona side by side with the caption “Separated at birth?” So, I get that a lot.

Personally, I think I look like my dad. :)

@aprilsimnel recently I nominated Janeane Garafalo to play me if there were to be a movie made of my life. Everyone shot me down, but I think it would have been an excellent fit. I think she really suits my personality.

SundayKittens's avatar

@april Mine told me Nicole Kidman, Virginia Mayo, Scarlett Johanssen, and some random man I didn’t know. Ha!!! All of yours are gorgeous!

Cruiser's avatar

I have been told I look just like Robert Shaw and in the right sunlight Howie Long! I get it all the time!

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

I also get Angelina Jolie a lot, but I don’t like to admit it… because I think it’s beyond ridiculous.

ipso's avatar

By far the most comments over the years have been “Christopher Reeve”.

I think they are all insane.

@lucillelucillelucille rosebud was the sled in the movie. Do they mean the cute kid? Or maybe Marion Davies? Rosebud was Hearst’s pet name for her vag. – which is why Hearst got so pissed at Orson Wells and destroyed his career.

Edit – oh – it was a joke – got it.

Yes. Eminem “The Real Slim Shady”.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard wow, I can really see the similarities in Pete Wentz. (you also made me want to do the side by side picture..haha.)

wwwlover's avatar

i was told i look like justin bieber the other day.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@ipso-Yes,the sled.
as for Ms.Davies’ vag,—I can’t stop laughing now—I’m not that old XD

TexasDude's avatar

@TheOnlyNeffie do it! you should me in eyeliner

Jude's avatar

Actually, @Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard looks like an ex boyfriend of mine (through the eyes). I’m not kidding.

SundayKittens's avatar

@wwwlover Well according to one of the desks in my classroom, Bieber is the sexiest man alive.

TexasDude's avatar

@jjmah, whoa… that’s nuts.

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

My sister says I look like a lighter-haired Charlie Day (from Always Sunny).
The beard and hairstyle are pretty much identical to mine.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

This was not the effect I was hoping for. Now I see it even less, haha. Maybe it is different in person? I guess so many people can’t be wrong, I just don’t get it.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@TheOnlyNeffie-I can see why! You’re a beauty! :)

ZEPHYRA's avatar

A while back people used to tell me I looked like the young Isabella Rosellini. Now I don’t know so much…...

I was shopping at Kroger wearing a summer dress and hair in a ponytail when I received my favorite comparison of all time: Anna Kournikova.

totally made my day

On the “celebrity lookalike” site that @aprilsimnel linked, my top 10 celebrities in order were: AC McLean, Kim Dae-jung, George Peppard, Josh Groban, Eleanor Roosevelt, David Schwimmer, Nubuo Uematsu, kate Bush, Jack Kerouac, and Carl Sagan.
I know who 3 of those people are. I’m impressed, honored and confused that Carl Sagan was in my top 10.

A few times I’ve been told that I look like my brother. And that we share some mannerisms (I’ve even been told that we share the same laugh). Once or twice, I’ve been told that I look like Dante (Brian O’Halloran) from Clerks, I think that’s mostly because of the goatee.
In general, I don’t think I look like any celebrity, and not many people seem to say that I do.

amazingme's avatar

People tell me I look like Kristin Stewart. I refuse to believe so.

Vunessuh's avatar

Most of the time, people say Jessica Biel. I personally don’t see the resemblance at all, but even when someone asks me who I’ve been told I look like and I say Jessica, they stop to examine my face for a moment and freak out and say ”Ohmuhgawd yeah, you do!
I’ve tried hard to see it, but I don’t. It could quite possibly just be our bone structures.
I’ve also gotten Rhona Mitra and Sandra Bullock. Oh, and the main chick from Stick It. Nobody ever knows her name. Lawl.
I’ve put about five different pictures into the celebrity look-a-like link and most of the time it brings up Jessica, Sandra, Vanessa Marcil, Yamila Diaz and Natalie Imbruglia.

Vunessuh's avatar

Oh, and whenever I hang out with @lucillelucillelucille, people think we’re related. XD

erichw1504's avatar

On my honeymoon, these Jamaican guys called me Tom Cruise.

I look nothing like Tom Cruise.

In reality, I think I look most like Ryan Gosling.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Vunessuh -It’s a lovely compliment! Now,go clean your room! XD

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

Throughout the years, it’s been mentioned by numerous people that I look like Princess Diana, Jane Pauley, and Hillary Clinton. I’ve never seen the resemblance with any of these women, but there you have it.

JLeslie's avatar

@Pied_Pfeffer you reminded me that my aunt used to tell me I looked like Princess Di. But she was the only one to say it. The other dopplegangers I mentioned I have heard constantly throughout my life.

isuppose's avatar

My cousin and a few friends told me I look like the singer Lights. But I think it’s just the hair.

shpadoinkle_sue's avatar

I’ve had a lot of visiting faily members tell me they have a friend that looks just like me. A couple showed me pictures. It was weird. :) My grandma tells me I look like Kirstie Alley. Young Cheers/Wrath of Khan kirstie alley.

rebbel's avatar

Mr. Bean (62%)
Kevin Spacey (56%)
Telly Savalas (1%)

@aprilsimnel
This angle?

rebbel's avatar

Apparently my girlfriend has a 54% resemblance to Robert Duvall.

shpadoinkle_sue's avatar

Seems when I was 4, I looked like Brad Pitt.

rebbel's avatar

No need to apologize, @aprilsimnel :-)
If you told me that that was Lisa Bonet i would believe you.
If you allow me, you are pretty pretty, April!

ApolloX64's avatar

I have been told I look like John Lennon by many people. Very puzzling, but whatev. I take it as a compliment :P.

woodcutter's avatar

Randy Travis back when my hair was brown, not so much now.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

I just uploaded a photo…you tell me.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@Pied_Pfeffer was it you who said something about Princess Di? Because that was my first thought when I saw your photo.

aprilsimnel's avatar

@rebbel – Thank you.

zen_'s avatar

Telly Savalas and Yul Brynner.

Mom2BDec2010's avatar

When I had long hair people would compare me to Avril Lavigne.

shpadoinkle_sue's avatar

@Mom2BDec2010 I can see that. She’s pretty girl.

OpryLeigh's avatar

I always get people telling me how much I look like my mum. I’ve also been told that I look like a few celebrities, Hillary Swank being one of them.

OpryLeigh's avatar

@JLeslie I wish I looked like Barbra!

augustlan's avatar

Molly Ringwald, back when she was in the brat pack and I was still young. We’ve aged similarly, too, but she’s like an improved version of me.

JLeslie's avatar

@Leanne1986 I get told Barbra a lot, but it is always by gentiles I noticed, same about Jennifer Grey. Kind of like we all look alike, if you know what I mean lol. I don’t think I look like those two the most out of the choices. I really did look a lot like Tatum when we were both kids. Funny enough Barbra’s friend Donna Karan, when I first met her, during our initial handshake said, “you look just like Tatum O’Neal.” I was in my late 20’s at the time. When I have my hair dark I really look a lot like Gloria, especially certain photos of her and me.

OpryLeigh's avatar

@JLeslie They’re all attractive people to be compared to and I can really see why people say you look like Gloria.

tedibear's avatar

ACK! I went to the My Heritage site. It says I look (60%) like a young Rupert Grint! (aka Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies.) WTH??? I see what it does though, it takes some specific points in the picture and does comparisons. The next one at 59% was Kirsten Dunst. That’s an even bigger laugh because I look nothing like her.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

How do you do this myheritage thing? It says I have to download a toolbar… did you all do that?

tedibear's avatar

@TheOnlyNeffie – I didn’t have to download a toolbar. I did join as it looked fairly innocuous, and from there I was able to upload my picture from my mac. I’m using Firefox if it makes any difference.

ucme's avatar

It kept telling me Alec Baldwin-Josh Hartnett & get this Angelina Jolie!!! :¬)

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

I got P. Diddy.

tedibear's avatar

Oh! I forgot that I also get told, “You look just like your mother.” Which I do.

OpryLeigh's avatar

I’ve just put my photo on that My Heritage Site thank you @aprilsimnel and I got Alicia Keys, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel and Ashley Tisdale (those are the ones that came up the most after 3 pictures). Those were the good ones that I don’t mind sharing!!!

MissAnthrope's avatar

I have pretty much looked the same since I was in 3rd or 4th grade (when you look at the class pictures, it’s completely obvious which one I am), my mom and I were just commenting on this, actually.

I must have a weird face, though, because honestly, I don’t think I look like anyone else, certainly not anyone famous. People rarely say I look like anyone, though recently, I’ve had two people say I look exactly like someone they know (an art teacher and a wedding planner) and that they just couldn’t get over it. Also, people have begun to comment a lot that I look just like my mom, which is very strange, considering no one ever said that before and also that my face really hasn’t changed at all. So, I dunno.

I hate that stupid MyHeritage site. Every time I try it, all the people I supposedly look like are men. WTF? (no idea if this link will work, but if it does, I mean, seriously? My look-alikes)

As Karen Walker would say, It’s funny ‘cause it’s sad.

augustlan's avatar

@MissAnthrope Nope, the link didn’t work for me. I can’t remember who all I got when I used that MyHeritage site, but I remember thinking ‘WTF?’, too.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

I got mostly men, too. I wasn’t joking when I said I got P. Diddy.

MissAnthrope's avatar

Hahahahaha… okay, at least it’s not just me. But at least P. Diddy is a moderately attractive man. Just look at my supposed look-alikes!

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Wow, that couldn’t be further off. lol

jonsblond's avatar

lmao…according to the site, my husband looks like Cindy Crawford the most. I used a photo of him when he had no facial hair

I guess I look like Piper Perabo, Gerald Ford and Denzel Washington…wth?

augustlan's avatar

So, I tried My Heritage again. I didn’t get any men, but, I got two black women (Oprah Winfrey and Donna Summer!), two Asian women, a Latino woman, and several other people I look nothing like. For the record, I’m a pasty-white redhead.

JilltheTooth's avatar

@augustlan: No, no. You are “luminously fair” or a “Titian Haired Beauty” with “Alabaster Skin”. There. That’s much better!

aprilsimnel's avatar

I think the metrics of that site’s logarithm picks up features, not skin colour, and things like the space between the eyes and nose, kind of like that Stephen Marquardt beauty analysis doohickey.

I mean, James Spader? But I get him repeatedly, in photos where I wear glasses, and without glasses, when I’m looking from the side, full frontal, etc., so apparently we have a very similar facial structure.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@aprilsimnel I figured that as well… but I put in a photo of myself facing forward, and somehow all of my “matches” came back with photos of people with their heads turned a bit to one side. I wonder why that would be?

aprilsimnel's avatar

Huh. Beats me!

JilltheTooth's avatar

Apparently I have a Doppelganger in the next town. People keep approaching me thinking I’m she. Very disconcerting. I wonder if she gets the same thing?

ipso's avatar

@aprilsimnel – I love your link-site!

Kim Cattrall
Rutger Hauer
Tommy Lee Jones
Gary Cooper
Dale Earnhardt Jr
Alan Alda
Gene Tierney
Jeff Daniels
Dolph Lundgren
Hugh Laurie

Completely accurate! But.. maybe if they had Sean Connery in there too.

I jest. Those are the people it gave me back (sans Sean) but I’m “WTF in the other direction”. All are overly complimentary vs. lame/obscure.

@JilltheTooth – I was in the local hospital getting some stitches quite a few years ago and I had a rather hilarious argument with a nurse. She was confirming with me the last time I had been to the hospital, and I was telling her she was wrong. This went on for some time before we came to the conclusion there is another man with my exact name, exact birthday, and lives about 9 blocks from me. He exists. I’ve thought about it for years: going up to the guy’s door just to see what he looks like.

@SundayKittens – Family legend has it that when I something like 8yo a film industry man approached my mother and had a conversation about me because I looked so much like Johnny Whitaker at the time. Nothing ever came of that. I got the comparison a lot when I was a kid though.

OpryLeigh's avatar

@JilltheTooth I used to have the same thing happen to me when I lived in a previous town. I was often mistaken for a girl called Lorna. I finally met her and both of us were surprised at how much we didn’t look alike.

MissAnthrope's avatar

I don’t know if you guys have seen or listened to the comedian Margaret Cho is, but she does a small bit about this. She gets told by a guy that she looks EXACTLY like his sister, but then he shows her a picture “and she’s SO UGLY! WTF is this supposed to be??”

I find that bit amusing because I have the same experience. Any time someone says I look like someone and they show me a picture, I see only a hint of the resemblance and the person is always unattractive. So now I’ve resolved to just leave it at the “you look just like..” and not let it evolve to the point where they’re showing me a picture of how ugly I really look. :P
