Are soap operas slowly becoming closer to real life?

Is reality becoming closer to soap opera? Just noticing how close to home everything seems to be getting, where can we gain any sense of fantasy that isn’t Avatar.

You mean evil twins exist and people assumed dead return form desert islands in real life? (I admit, I don’t watch soap operas, so I don’t know if they do that stuff any more.)

That is exactly what I mean, and dammit it is happening all over our streets right this minute.

For me I love soap operas, especially Dynasty and Guilding Light. Though I don’t have the channels I used to watch them on :/

I think they are becoming more close to life, correct me if I am wrong.

I’m afraid that for a lot of people real life is becoming more like a soap opera rather than soap operas being more like real life. YIKES!

I don’t have a long lost brother who was shunned by my father now trying to ruin my life, sleep with my ex-wife and sue half the family. This, of course, only after he tricked my father’s ex-wife into thinking her baby was ok after she had a miscarriage and my ex-wife into thinking her baby had died – then swapped the babies.

But then…I’m an only child.

and no, I don’t watch Y&R. no, really.

@jonsblond! where are you when I need you?!

I think it is a cyclical thing. They go back and forth chasing whatever will land them more viewers.

Ummmm, like when a woman kidnaps her pregnant cousin, cuts the baby out and tells everyone it’s hers? Or the rich husband finds out his wife is carrying the pool boy’s baby and kicks them both out? Or a teenage girl knocks on the door and tells the stunned widow she is a long lost step-daughter? That kind of real”

So what’s new?
