Can I get help researching musicians from different states?

Asked by Elumas (3170points) September 6th, 2010

For an optional school project I have to represent different sectors of America visually. I came up with the idea of using different musicians and bands to represent culture. For example: Bruce Springsteen for New Jersey. I’d move much quicker if I could have some suggestions as to people I could use and where they come from.

Questions like this are what Wikipedia was tailored for: American Musicians by State.

I think this is a really cool idea for a project, by the way :) You could even put together a playlist to go along with whatever visuals you use.

I might go through each state and make my list for fun and post it here.

What about general area based stuff like New York being big in the whole indie scene, Los Angeles and Las Vegas spitting out club DJ’s and electro, or Seattle and Portland and their folk scene?

Might be easier that way and then narrow it down to specific musicians.

New Orleans and Harry Connick…..or another example. Pete Fountain. Their funeral parades would also be awesome to show.

KY – bluegrass Sam Bush

Michigan Bob Segar, (or is it Seger?) Or Marshall Mathers if you prefer. Or Harry Chapin. Or The Nuge. All very different genres.
