If you could time travel, would you go back in time, or to the future?

Asked by NaturallyMe (4937points) September 12th, 2010

I’d go back in time, because the first thing i want to do is go back to the time of the dinosaurs. I’m so curious to see what they really looked like and how they lived and behaved etc. :D

Where would you want to go and why?

I’d probably go back in time. The first two things I would do are prevent my first marriage from ever happening and I would try to foil the assassination of John F. Kennedy. After that, I’d think of other things to do in the past as time went on.

@Bluefreedom

Unfortunately, you would cause a time paradox and the universe would implode.

I would go back in time 20 years to say hi to my friend when we both were just a bit younger! ;)

I want to go forward. We already know what happened in the past. I want to see what’s coming next. What an adventure that would be.

Putting aside all scientific and pseudo-scientific theories, I would definitely want to go back into the past rather than into the future. I don’t want to know what’s ahead, but I’d love to visit the ‘40s, and to revisit some of my favorite memories from the ‘50s and ‘60s.

I would go back and spend some time with my father before he died, just to get to know him and thus (hopefully) understand some more about the part of me that comes from him…

Can I be the time machine/Tardis operator? I’d like to visit both the past and the future. For those of you that have personal experiences you want to re-visit, I’ll just take a stroll around town until you are ready to go.

Always back, I am not one for the future.

chyna's avatar

I know what happened in the past, I don’t know what the future holds, so I think I’d like to go forward.

I would go back to Friday.I need to know where I put my car keys.

@lucillelucillelucille I hope they are not in the same place as @supermouse’s keys:
supermouse lost keys This thread is pretty cute, but alas, she never found them.

Initially I would have said that I’d like to go 10 years into the future into my own life, because whatever I saw whether good or bad I think that it would be a win win situation. This is based to the idea that we could change the future (as in Scrooge) but as I don’t think it would be possible to change the future in this sense…hmmmm… I would like to travel 30 years into the future to see how my son develops into a man. That would be lovely.

I would love to check out mediviel times. I am fascinated with King Arthur and chilvary and stuff.

I would go both ways. Why restrict yourself?

I would collate a whole bunch of sporting results. Then travel far enough back in time to make a mint, say maybe a month or two. I’d clean up betting on the outcomes I already know. Whoo Hoo!!

Frenchfry's avatar

@ucme Are you thinking of Back to the Future part two? LOL

ucme's avatar

@Frenchfry Nah, those shysters pinched that idea from me.Thieving scum that they are!

Back. It would be easy to make money with the knowledge I have now.

I’d go forward to the point when my husband gets home from this deployment. My son and I were just talking about this last night.

I’d like to go back in time to just after my last child was born and do the last 24 years better.

I would feel more at home in the future, but I would want to go back, and talk to my grandfather’s grandfather about why he moved the family across the ocean, to settle in Ohio.

ducky_dnl's avatar

Back. I’d go back to January and stop the worst day in my life from ever happening.

I would go back to some point in the Victorian era. I want to see what they wore, and hear the lost music, and dance the lost dances, and meet a real gentlemen.

perspicacious's avatar

I would stay right where I am today.

Jabe73's avatar

The past. I don’t know where to start here. I would like to go back to the time of Jesus so I could see for myself what really happened instead of relying on an old (probally altered) bible.

NaturallyMe's avatar

@perspicacious i didn’t mean that you have to forever stay where you’re visiting, you’re just visiting for a while and then coming back here.

perspicacious's avatar

@NaturallyMe But I really like where I am right now so I’m sticking here.

NaturallyMe's avatar

@perspicacious Oh, ok. :) I just thought it’d be fun visiting elsewhere, like a vacation, except to another time.
