Do you have any advice for selling food products from home over the internet?

Asked by shpadoinkle_sue (7188points) September 17th, 2010

I live in Washington and my mother is wondering about how to go about selling food products from home. She has a food liscense, but she has to get it updated. For example, if she was to sell her pepper jelly on a website that allows the sale of homemade food products, how would she go about it? What would she need to have liscence-wise, kitchen-wise? Stories of personal experience are greatly appreciated.

@shpadoinkle_sue – More than likely, the website will have all of the requirements laid out…the only thing that she would really have to make sure she looks at is where the liability lies for anything that can be attributed to her foods. I guarantee that the website will have a contract that will lay this out (plus cost splitting stuff).
