MDs where do you send a patient that was referred to you?

Asked by WestRiverrat (20117points) September 24th, 2010

If the referral was from out of your system.

Do you send them back to the original Dr or do you send them to a GP in your system?

My dad was referred to a specialist for his renal failure, the specialist would not let him go back to the Dr he sees in his home town, but has him go to the Clinic the Dr. is affiliated with 45 minutes drive away. And by the time my dad gets in and out of the car it is about 90 minutes travel time each way.

I send them back to their original doctor who made the referral unless there is a reason to do otherwise.

Likewise. Did the specialist give any reason for not wanting your dad to go back to his original physician?
