Is there any other software you can use to manage your iPod?

Asked by RareDenver (13173points) September 28th, 2010

I don’t really like using iTunes to manage music and pictures on my iPod but I feel I have no choice. Is there anything else out there?

ps I love free stuff

I’ve been using CopyTrans (one of the choices on @erichw1504‘s list), and it actually does a better job of managing my iPod Touch than it does my iPod Nano. CopyTrans also has modules for Photos and I don’t know what-all else, too. It’s a pretty good suite.

Songbird is a great music player but not such a good iPod manager. Just like the writer of @erichw1504‘s list, I couldn’t actually get iPod support working for Songbird or even find the right plugin for quite some time. When I did finally find the plugin, it said it was incompatible with the version of Songbird I had installed. I’d therefore recommend going with another manager for iPod-related stuff.

I’ve used Floola in the past and currently use Sharepod.

Both are programs that you copy directly to your iPod (in Device Mode). The great benefit to this is that you can hook up your iPod to just about any computer and move songs to and from your iPod with ease.

They are not as fully featured as iTunes and others; these programs are strictly for moving MP3 files around, not for renaming, re-encoding, etc.
