What happened to Campbells Alphabet Soup?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) September 28th, 2010

I have looked in vain for this soup. I cannot find it anywhere. Question: Do the Campbell soup makers believe that American children have reached their potential in education? Does Campbell Soup even make alphabet soup anymore? If their alphabet soup is still available, please give a location to purchase it.

Beats me. I don’t see it on the shelves up here in Canada either anymore. I used to love it as a kid, and I used to see commercials about it growing up.

I think it might be too troublesome and costly to make——you know, the little letters and such. I think there are other brands of soup that still make ‘alphabet soup’ but I don’t recall which brands specifically.

Maybe write to Campbells and ask them?

Shinyshoes, thanks. beats me. you would think this would be the last soup on earth that Campbells would get rid of. i asked this question, because i ran into an outdated can the other day that we had purchased for my grandaughter, when she lived with us.

@john65pennington You’d think kids would still be asking for it today. I remember it used to be very popular in the 80s and there were lots of commercials about it.

They discontinued it and replaced it with Campbell’s Text Speak Soup. It doesn’t have all the letters of the alphabet but a lot of people don’t want or need all the letters of the alphabet now anyway :-)

@lillycoyote No wonder kids can’t read and write properly these days! With the high tech age, kids have forgotten how to communicate through alphabet soup and writing. They’ve become a generation of illiterates. Sigh!

Bring back alphabet soup NOW! Lol.

@MRSHINYSHOES I’m working on a letter to the president and to the CEO of Campbell’s Soup as we speak, demanding that they bring back alphabet soup immediately! We must make a stand against the erosion of the literary and grammatical standards of our soups! We owe it to future generations!

GQ. I couldn’t locate any information on their web site or on their Facebook link, so I sent a message to the company with your questions. I’ll let you know if/when I hear back.

In the meantime, if anyone is hunkering for a bowl, the alphabet pasta is still available.

Lol- 2 GA’s!

With your sense of humor, I’m tempted to nickname you Gerri Seinfeld. ;-)

That was one of my favorite soups as a child.

Well I checked out their site . It seems they have replace it with Chicken Alphabet soup. It is not vegetable or tomato based anymore.

I thought alphabet was vegetarian vegetable. Which is my favorite.
It has little pasta letters, doesn’t it??

They still make it. It is not called Alphabet Soup, however. It is called Campbell’s Vegetable Soup. They also make a Vegetarian Vegetable Soup and a Chicken Alphabet Soup as well. For a while they had a Meatball Alphabet Soup. The traditional one you are thinking of that they’ve made for years using alphabet shaped pasta is Campbell’s Vegetable. While it is informally called “the alphabet soup” I don’t believe that has ever been its official name.

Here in Tennessee you can buy it anywhere – Kroger, Wal-Mart, any grocery store.

John, I went to Kroger’s grocery store this morning. @diavolobella is correct. I checked the soups, and Campbell’s sells a vegetarian vegetable soup and a vegetable (with beef broth) soup with the alphabet pasta in it. Here is a link to their web-site.

I got an email reply today (4/13/22) from Campbells advising me that they have discontinued the Vegetable Soup with Alphabets. “I’m sorry to let you know that this product has been discontinued.” I’m P.O.ed.

@FedUpInTX There seems to be two options: Continue being PO’ed about it for the rest of your life, or make your own.

“Alphabet” macaroni is available for sale on the internet. It’s cheap. It’s delivered to your doorstep. Just boil some in hot water or broth, and add it to whatever pleases you. There is a good chance that FedUpInTX Alphabet Soup will far exceed Campbell’s.
