Relationship messes which is ethical or unethical in your opinion?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) September 30th, 2010

In this messy, messy mine field of what people call love and relationships which scenario would you figure ethical or unethical?

Scenario ‘A’ Bill and Brenda had a long term relationship, but it ends badly, because of their relationship Bill got to know Brenda’s BFF Alice who remained friends and became an item. Is it ethical for Bill and Alice to get together seeing Brenda’s feelings and ego might get bruised, or is it unethical?

Scenario ‘B’ Bill and Brenda had a long term relationship, but it ends badly, because of their relationship Bill got to know Brenda’s younger sister Alice who remained friends and became an item. Is it ethical for Bill and Alice to get together seeing Brenda’s feelings and ego might get bruised, or is it unethical?

Scenario ‘C’ Lars finds his g/f Tina’s young mother (had Tina in her teens) hot, and when her mother’s marriage fails and she divorces he dumps Tina to move in on the mother, which takes the bait and they become an item. Is that ethical or unethical?

Scenario ‘D’ Betty has a BFF she brings home for the holidays from college, the BFF and her divorced dad hooks up and becomes an item, ethical or unethical?

These days with no holds barred, life is short, get yours now and be happy climate is there really anything unethical so long as no one is cheating and above the legal age?

I didn’t find anything unethical in the scenarios you described (though I question your language “move in on the mother” but there’s nothing wrong with Lars and Tina’s Mom dating… if I were friends with Tina’s mum I would probably ask her whether she is sure she is ready for a relationship considering the recent changes in her situation, but I would never suggest that she not pursue a relationship if it could potentially bring her happiness.)

“is there really anything unethical so long as no one is cheating and above the legal age?”… ehh, not really. These situations will probably result in a tangled mess, but they aren’t unethical.

I would say that scenarios B, C, and D are really shitty, but not unethical. Scenario A is lame, but definitely ethical. Some friend Alice is. Bitch!

Scenario D depends on the age of Betty’s BFF: if the friend us under 18 then it’s unethical. Assuming that all participants in all these scenarios are of legal age I don’t think any of them are actually unethical. Scandalous, sure.

None of the situations are technically unethical but B, C, D could lead to some hella awkward Thanksgivings.
I’m feeling kind of sorry for Brenda. Doesn’t she inspire loyalty from anyone?

I’m with @deni

It’s ALL shitty!

LOL

Brenda needs therapy to find out why she keeps attracting f—k ups! haha

Yeah, None are great! lol
I think that B and D are the worst… quite possibly B. I’ve known people that did C, and although I thought it was crazy, he now has a child with her, and 7 other children from her previous relationship! Nothing is truely WRONG, but still… B and D particularly rub me the wrong way.

Nothing unethical but they’re all crap scenarios in my opinion based on my own morals.

C is the shittiest by far. In A and B Brenda and Bill have already split, and in D no-one is attached.
