Why do people like scary movies?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37335points) October 8th, 2010

Scary movies can send real chills up and down a person’s back. They can make you jump in your seat. You know when you go in that you’re going to get scared, yet you still go. Why?

Is it the adrenaline rush we feel? Do we get satisfaction from knowing that despite our fear, we are actually safe? Do we like to be reminded of the fight or flight syndrome we all still possess in our brains?
