Joe Lieberman has been a good family friend for many many years and still makes his way over for dinner sometimes.

My sister was in the Girl Scouts with one of the daughters of Ken Kesey. We spent a few days at his house and I got to spend some time with him. I was only six or seven years old at the time and I didn’t really know who he was. He just seemed like a normal dad that lived in a old barn.

I sold baby asprin to Huey Lewis and he hung out with me a while and watched the baseball game that was on. Also, I got to discuss magazines with the lead singer of Journey, sold beer to the lead singer of America, and sold a bunch of junk food to Grace Slick.

Does this count? I dated Richard Raskind when he was a macho captain of the Yale Tennis team. Many years pass – we renew our friendship and he becomes my Ophthamologist; we date a few more times. He starts to look very odd. In a year he becomes Renee Richards, a very tall female in gold hoop earrings, lacy tennis panties and on the women’s tennis circuit.

Jessica from Laguna Beach. She’s such a you-know-what, and annoying as hell. She actually thinks she’s famous haha.

Me and my (at the time) girlfriend had a 15-minute chat with Adam Levine at a Live Lounge gig. He was pretty awesome. I also know this guy from Hollyoaks, but that show is terrible :)

A week with someone for ny fashion week. He was a great and someone I would consider a friend. He was definitely on top of his appearance at all times and aware of what was going on around him with out it being obvious. But then again it was fashion week after all.

I’ve had dinner with Ralph Nader and Howard Zinn but I wouldn’t say I “know” them. Ralph was a messy eater, and as a naive college student I was shocked that he wasn’t vegetarian. Nader was very quiet. Zinn was mellow and spent most of the time talking about Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. I think they are all family friends or something. When I was campaigning for John Kerry we were visited by Michael Moore and Rosanne. Rosanne was unrecognizable, and even though I am a huge fan of Michael Moore, I found myself annoyed with him for being so late to visit our crew when we were supposed to be out talking with voters. We were trying to win an election, you know? I found that after meeting so many of my heroes I got over it and didn’t put them on a pedestal. Some politicians who I have gotten to know on a personal level (not folks mentioned here) helped me realize that too. I may still admire them, but see them in a more human way now.

I also got to meet Vandana Shiva in India. Reading some of her work actually inspired me to study abroad there. I had NO IDEA we were going to meet her, and I was the only one in my class who knew who she was, but I told everyone about her and they got excited. I think I got to sit next to her and she gave a lecture and we visited her farm. She was working on a lawsuit against Monsanto at the time and kept having to leave to answer calls on her cell phone. That was pretty badass.

I also met Al Gore. He appeared to have make- up on when I met him. I got to see his “inconvenient truth” slideshow in person. That was a once in a lifetime experience.

I once cooked breakfast for Jimmy Carter when he was on his way to build houses on one of the reservations for Habitat for Humanity. Kind of unnerving having a Secret Service agent looking over my shoulder when I was cooking the eggs.

I have also helped handle the dogs when former VP Cheney was here hunting a time or two.

I went to a neighborhood Christmas party and Dallas Cowboy Bob Lilly and his wife were there. He said he’d let his wife take our photo together. (-: I had a half hour conversation with his wife. I had met him months before that at their house. I went over for some reason I can’t recall. He was SO cordial and called for his wife who came out with hair rollers. We all chatted in their kitchen. Oh, she has the most gorgeous, flawless pale complexion and is so nice. She’s into carrot juice! Later that week, she came over on her bike and brought me the picture with Bob.
In 1966 I was at a Dallas party and Mike Ditka sat down next to me in the living room. He said, “it’s awfully hot in here; I wonder if we could open that window?” I was newlywed at the time, he was single and the other Cowboys were in the kitchen and I stayed out of there! I guess “extended period of time” didn’t exist in these situations, though.

I have been bird-watching on two occasions with the late biostatistician Byron ’‘Bill’’ Brown. A very famous man in a rather small field. Taught me the difference between binoculars and field glasses in the days before the modern Internet.
