Do you think true love is the same for everyone?

Asked by 8lightminutesaway (1419points) April 10th, 2008

does true love have all the same qualities, characteristics, and benefits for everyone or is it different for different people? I’m very curious to see what other people think on this…

No, only if you invent a limited philosophical perspective. Even if you define “true love” in a very specific way, you’d have to invalidate those who’ll inevitably disagree with what you say.

The limited perspective I’d toss out is that everyone’s unique and every love is unique in some way.

the reason I asked was in another thread, some people were criticizing another person who was married, saying that he was in the wrong relationship because he had to lie to her about her looks. I think it IS different for everyone, but they seemed to think that their view was right, and even though this married guy was married, they told him it was wrong. I guess I want to see how many people think people can find love in their own way, or if everyone is looking for close to the same thing.

NO its different for everyone. Love is to much of a confusing thing for it to all be the same and thats what’s so wonderful about it :)

Love is a different and varied as people are. It’s an individual thing.

Love depends on the people involved and what there opinion of love is. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So if u truly love someone u’ll see the true beauty they have no matter what they look like. That’s my opinion anyways but I’m definitely no expert on love!

I sort of think that real, true love is pretty much the same for people. We relate to descriptions of love in poetry and great novels as recognizable states—similar to what we all feel. That feeling describes love, which, even through different times and countries, has a strong theme and similarity in those descriptions. And I think in some ways it is comforting to know, when one is in love, that this amazing and all encompassing emotion is one that others have felt and may understand. Like, we’re not crazy, we’re just in love.

I’d say it would be different for each individual person. i believe everyone has a different outlook on the term ‘love’.. I’d be willing to bet that alot of peoples definition of ‘love’ is different from the next person

One more vote for different…
Individualism, love, not the same, blah, blah, blah…

Everyone has basically said all my points, so yeah.

another vote for different. I disagree a little with@skfinkel….I think what he/she is referring to is what I think of as chemistry & the physical affects of lust. Relationships differ but I think chemistry is relatively the same.

True love is a conscious decision to love a person. It is an attitude and a committment. All other forms of love are dependent upon very subjective self emotions and self evaluations of the worthiness of another person. I am not dissing other forms of love, we have all enjoyed them from time to time, But chemistry/physical/romantic love is guaranteed to time out.

You will also experience different types of love at various times in your life. Relax about WHAT it truly is and enjoy having it!

It’s as different as there are people. I swear, I have an ex b/f who only loved me for my sandwich making abilities!!!

Take a poll on how people define love, lust and loss. Everyone will have a different opinion.

And you will see that it is different for everyone including youself.

Everyone responds differently to love….I’d have to disagree on this one.
