well, he pointed me to a very usefull tool, the rockbox installer:

also available for OS X

I’ve used the Rockbox Utility on my Xubuntu system and it’s excellent. Works like a charm.

By the way, for all your Rockbox questions, the documentation is an excellent first step, as it is very comprehensive.
