My PowerBook is frozen. What do I do?

I turned the computer off, pressing "restart." Now the screen shows the Apple symbol, but it's totally frozen. What do I do? When I try to turn it off, nothing happens.

press and hold the power button. after five or ten seconds, the computer will shut down. if your computer regularly freezes in this way, i would advise re-installing the system software.
