What does the opening "HAVANA (AP)" mean on a news article?
Similar openings also appear on press releases. What do they refer to? The location the article refers to, or was written, or what? I’m guessing “AP” means “Associated Press”, is that correct?

As far as I know, it is the location the news report is written in. So, not necessarily the location of the event reported on, but rather the location it’s reported from…..and I think you’re right about the AP part.
For AP stories, it’s the bureau that the report is filed from. For other news outlets, the dateline can refer to either the location of filing or the location the story takes place. I think it’s more standard to do location of filing.
What does the location of filing refer to? Where it was completed?
Okay, thanks guys. Just something I always wondered.
