Is there a way to remove static electricity from a blanket?

I bought a very soft fleece blanket. The only problem is that as soon as I unwrapped it, it started crackling with static electricity. It has been that way for a couple days. Is there a way to remove static electricity from an oversized blanket? Would those anti-static clothing sprays work on something so big?

Run the long side of a wire hanger over the blanket. It works!
