Any tips on controlling dust?

did you check the filters? i’m sure you did, but i figured I would ask.

Old rugs? Take ‘em out and beat ‘em.

Old carpet? If you can’t replace it, get it cleaned professionally, and then vacuum regularly and often.

And like @ccatron alluded, your HVAC system might need a good cleaning, too… not just the filters, but the ductwork as well. Get several estimates on that though, prices range crazily and it need not be expensive to get done right.

If you have a central air conditioner, you might add an electrostatic filter to the system. Now, these are not cheap, but are the most efficient at removing air bourne particles. The most recent design improvement is the polypropolene filter cell. It works with less voltage and reduces the presence of ozone.

this is something i learned from my sister much older than me:

bounce sheets (you know, the ones you throw in the dryer), if you wipe them on things, the electronegativity will help deflect a lot of the dust. Just keep in mind it doesn’t work as well on flat surfaces, but you should see a slight improvement.

Carpet is a dust factory. Get rid of it. Vacuum all fabrics in your home such as curtains and furniture
