Genetics.

I’m nearly the opposite. I could’ve had a full beard before 16 if I wanted. I did try sideburns for a few weeks, but they looked dumb.

I’m 22 and I still can’t grow a beard. I have a little turf on my chest, but it’s so small my girlfriend and I joke about it. I’m hairy in other places, though, so ehh.

It’s probably not worth worrying about. If you really need an answer, ask your doctor.

Be thankful… you could have my avatar’s problem !

Seriously though, the problem you describe sounds hot. As a girl I’ll say you won’t have to hear complaints that your face is scratchy, and IMHO guys with little or no chest hair are sexy. Thinking: Brad Pitt, Gabriel Aubry, Ashton Kutcher, to name a few.

I was about the same as MisterBlueSky85. I’m 30 now and still don’t have much hair on my chest or armpits. But I can grow a pretty full beard. And I was about 25 before I got real facial hair.

I agree with mcbealer. I like a bare chest and I’m usually attracted to guys with little to no facial hair. So in my opinion, you don’t have a thing to worry about. =]

Ditto to what Allie said.

How on earth could I have possibly forgotten to give props to David Beckham?
Also, Gabriel Aubrey not Aubry

well, i started growing a beard at 21, armpits and such came a bit earlier, i’ve been shaving my armpits though, i also shave my hands and wrists, why? i really don’t want hair there, and one downside of a beard…you get a free mustache with it, which i shave of course, by the way, this is a side shot of my beard, yes i know i look like the first zombie from resident evil in that one

Are you light-skinned and fair-haired? Natural blonds usually have less body hair.

Mtl_zack's avatar

i never knew girls would like a hairless person this much. i guess what you see in the movies affects me: big guy with a huge hairy chest saves the princess.

gailcalled: no, i have dark brown hair with unusual blue eyes. (unusual because no one in my family has blue eyes and the black and white photos cant show blue). i dont think its genetic because my dad, paternal grandfather, paternal uncle, and apparently my paternal great grandfather all were hairy.

eambos's avatar

Alleles can be recessive or codominate. So even if it does not show in other generations, your family may carry the genes for less hair.

Zack: nowadays, big guy with huge waxed chest saves princess.

Some women still like a hairy chest; they think a hairless man looks too much like a woman.

At least that’s what I’m told.

marinelife's avatar

I am a woman, and I have never been a big fan of hairy. Manscaping is costly and painful, why wish for it?

Also, my husband started to get chest hair after he turned 40, so maybe there is some in your future.

Mrs_Dr_Frank_N_Furter's avatar

so? I know like 50 to 60 year old men who can’t grow hair by the sides of their lips. Not like ON the lips though, but to the side of them.

eambos's avatar

Scarring can also prevent hair from growing. That’s the most likely case for those men.

It is likely to fill in more as you get older, too. For now, I’d enjoy it! Previous posts show that chicks dig less fuzzy fellows! I will tell you that it was hard for me to accept that a previous boyfriend had back hair at the age of 21. I would’ve MUCH preferred that he have YOUR hair situation.

Trance24's avatar

At least your not Uberbatman, he can only grow half a beard the other side is bare. (And he looks ridiculous.)

iwamoto's avatar

poor jackson, well, my beard has more of a right side growth as well

delirium's avatar

I tiny but well trimmed amount of facial hair is sexy and I absolutely loooove happy trails. But chest and back hair is gross. Ugh.

iwamoto's avatar

in that case Del. , do i have too much ?

PupnTaco's avatar

@ delirium: file me under “gross” then. :\

Allie's avatar

…Seriously. Although Brad Pitt was mighty fine in Fight Club (pre-black eyes and blood).

Also, I can’t believe I forgot Mark Wahlberg! <3

PnL: ... and he’s sensitive to boot. (Just not too sensitive, I hope.)

Trance24's avatar

@iwamoto yea well at least you have some growth its like practically smooth on the one side of his face and the other is like beardage.

mcbealer's avatar

@ Allie ~ I was watching the Bourne Identity again this afternoon… the shot of him kissing Marie after her haircut…

marinelife's avatar

What about Matthew McConaughey? Hairless and hot!

PupnTaco's avatar

What about Ernest Borgnine?

oh yeah…

iwamoto's avatar

stone cold steve austin..the rock..rey mysterio…etc etc.

delirium's avatar

Hate to say it, iwo, but yep. I like facial hair a la “the princess bride” char westly.

iwamoto's avatar

if i had more of a chance with you i’d consider taking off some, but since that’s not the case, i’ll grow old with this beard…

eambos's avatar

Princess Bride is a spectacular movie!

Give me 1 day and I’ll have that beard
