So if I emailed someone in London or Spain, does it take the same amount of time to get there as it does to like the person who lives next door to me? and the same time for on the way back?

it will have a bit of delay, but that’s delay measured in Ms, so yeah, it’s pretty fast, the speed is very dependent on client and server, for instance, i can download with an average speed of 1.3 megabyte per second, but sometimes i encounter servers that only upload at about 200 kilobyte per second, so then my expensive connection is worth squat…

it can also depend on the server that is processing the email. especially if we’re talking about webmail. sure you may be emailing your neighbor, but more than likely their email is somewhere on the other side of the country.

If you’re sending an email, the difference in delivery time won’t be noticeable by distance on land. It will often arrive within a matter of seconds.
