My parents got me a Dell as a Christmas present. I wish they had gotten me a Mac.

I have an 15 “Apple PowerBook G4 1.2 Ghz PPC. I love this laptop a lot and couldn’t be more pleased. I’m looking forward to buying a MacBook Pro this year.

Work gives me a Dell Latitude D620 with 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo and 2GB of RAM (I think IT is now rigging ‘em w/ 4GB these days). They upgrade/update me every 12–18 months.

I hate this piece of crap.

The hard drives fail. The batteries are pitiful (after only 6 months, a full charge will only net you about 40 minutes… and that’s not DVD). So I’m always, it seems, on the cusp of losing work. IT will overnite me whatever I need, but sheesh, it’s terrible.

Compared to other corporate types, I feel lucky. It’s a huge relief to have such a competent IT organization supporting this craptacular hardware. If it was my money, and I just had to have a Dell (or similar), I’d have to resign myself to a mediocre existence relying on Dell Tech Support and squirrel away some money for that inevitable rainy day when a crucial component flakes out (within months, not years).

Apple’s ain’t perfect. I’ll never say they are. But the longevity of their hardware is definitely appreciated by folks like me who live dual computing lives.

I have a dell inspiron 1520.
it’s my first laptop, and it’s the love of my life: 2 gigs, core 2 duo 7250, nvidia 8600 gfx, 15.4 inch wxga+, 9 cell battery. i still get 2 to 4 hours out of it after 8 months.
i sort of wish i waited another month to get a slimmer one, but no complaints.

MacBook Pro and love it! Had a PowerBook G4 before (same as robhaya). It was just about the sturdiest machine ever! considering what I put it through (it got acquainted with the kitchen floor more than once!).

Self-bought Powerbook G4 1,67 GHz, employer-bought MacBook 2 GHz. I wish my employer wasn’t such a cheap ass and instead got me a MacBook Pro just for the FireWire 800 and GPU, but all in all I’m more than pleased with the MacBook.

The Powerbook is the first love, though. ;-) Still works like when it was new – in fact better, due to OS upgrades (first Tiger, now Leopard).

I have Acer Aspire 5000 Series . I have had it since 2005 and I absolutely love this thing. Still works superb. definitely DO NOT buy a dell. i spend a good amount of my college time fixing all my friends’ dell laptops. Acer is a German brand, in case you haven’t heard of it and i don’t know about now, but when i bought it, it was in the top 5 laptops list. That said, I really don’t care for Vista (the new OS), so if you buy any PC, you should try to get an XP OS. that’s just a side opinion though.

HP Pavilion Entertainment PC. I love it. . .great quality for watching DVDs; it’s a little workhorse! I would definitely buy it again in the future. Other family members own them, too, with great affection!

I just bought a MacBook a couple months ago. Its been one of my greatest investments. I love it. Apple really knows what they are doing.

I purchased a refurb Fujitsu Lifebook U810.

I wish I hadn’t. It’s just too underpowered to really do much of anything. Ubuntu runs beautifully on it, though. I should have just gotten another mac. Or a souped up, but cheaper laptop, and Hackintosh’d it.

Acer Aspire One, that little cutie one that weighs nothing and is teeny tiny.
Perfect :D
