It would help answer the question if it were known what it was that brought the question to mind.

There does not seem to be any indication that he was gay. He was married, had children he delighted in, took his family with him on his travels to Europe. Not that being married precludes being gay, but there is just no evidence that he was and a good deal of evidence that he wasn’t.

What makes you postulate that he was gay?
