Why doesn't fluther use normal bulletin board markup?
What gives with this weird markup?

I would love it if Fluther was a forum more than a Q&A.
That would be BORING! And why is this weird? Because it’s different and so easy to use?
I am not familiar with any other so did not mind. Also, it is simple enough to learn.
I know, Im just stubborn. I figured a bunch of old forum heads would get a kick out of it.
@poofandmook: Am I missing something? What did your response have to do with the question?
There isn’t a standard for forum software markup, although they generally conform close to one another.
Fluther uses Textile, which is standardized.
I always accidentally use HTML. Thank goodness for the preview!
@girl: I guess I wasn’t paying attention to the question… I sort of breezed right over the word “markup.” It’s been a very long day.
Shorter answer: what soundedfury said.
Short answer: For the same reason that we don’t allow animated gif avatars, response signatures, and don’t convert text into nauseating yellow smilies.
