I know you can’t have the best of both worlds but maybe you know of something that is close to that description.

It’s worth considering spending a bit more and getting a tool that is going to last longer, be more useful, and you will enjoy more. You can get into a macbook for $1100. It would be worth the investment. imho.

Best is a MacBook. Stay away from anything refurb (it was once someone else’s problem…do you want it to be yours?). Stay away from the following:

Vista
Dell
Compaq
HP
Toshiba
HP (if desperate get this)

Best bet is Apple or a Sony (without Vista). I’ve been working with, selling, and repairing computers for 15 years or so. Most are crap.

Best? Get a refurbished MacBook. Cheap? Get a low-end Lenovo ThinkPad.

What they said. A refurb MacBook offers the best deal over the life of the product.

The very best deal in the industry on a machine would be from dell.
You will be able to save quite a bit with coupons and special builds.

If you really want to save I would encourage you to check out this article on
