Give this a try I’ve not done it personally but It was the first link in a search of “transfer mail from hotmail to gmail” in Google and is written by a guy who I’ve read his posts before, it’s also linked to from the site that’s behind the second link down, so it can’t be bad huh? ;) Hope it’s okay.

I used the exact method as above. It’s a lot of work, but works great and preserves the original mail headers about as best as possible.
