How do you add a link in a Fluther question?

Asked by gooch (5749points) August 3rd, 2008

Using a hot “word” instead of the complete link showing up in your answer. Please give step by step instructions. I am running Mac OS X with Safari browser.

type “link(or what ever you want to say)”: <- no spaces here -> http://www.whatyouwanttolinkto.com

eambos's avatar

“Link Title” : website URL

Just remove the spaces and it’s becomes a Link

eambos's avatar

When you try and link from the iphone it, for some unknown reason, always links back to the question.

gooch's avatar

Now how do I change the link to a word like you did Eambos

osullivanbr's avatar

The you’d type “Eambos” : website URL

Leave out all the spaces though.

“testing: http://www.fluther.com/disc/19488/how-do-you-add-a-link-in-a-fluther-question/”
This is what I got osullivanbr
Reediting with unsatisfactory results. Am I that dumb…They did not teach this in school…guess I am to old.

osullivanbr's avatar

You left out the : after “testing”.

osullivanbr's avatar

So step by step.
From the example you are using…

1. type “testing”
2. Followed by :
3. Followed by full URL

No spaces.

Keep going, gooch, you are close! (And not the first Flutherer) to have these issues.

gooch's avatar

yes I did it now just to remember!!!!!!!!!

osullivanbr's avatar

Delete the space and the /
And then you have it.

You can also do quick and easy google, imdb, and amazon searches. Instead of the url after the colon, just put ‘amazon’, ‘google’, or ‘imdb’ and you’ll get an easy search.

Fluther also gets a cut from amazon links, too.

“the pixar touch” : amazon—> the pixar touch
“fluther” : google —> fluther
“andrew mcclain” : imdb —> andrew mcclain

Crikey andrew, I never knew that, thank you!

marinelife's avatar

@andrew Hold-out artists! You should put that somewhere permanent. Good to know.

sferik's avatar

@Marina there are instructions here.

marinelife's avatar

Thanks Andrew and Erik. Right. (Hits forehead with palm.) Read the Fluther Guidelines. All I can say is too much good information to take in in one go! I will now attempt to use that capability.

gooch's avatar

Wow today Fluther was so full of useful knowledge. I think today has been my best day Fluthering EVER!

lefteh's avatar

I know I’m bumping an old question, but instructions are also directly under the answer box.

eambos's avatar

It’s not really a bump; the question is still at the bottom of the pile, we who still follow it just get a note.

lefteh's avatar

Well yeah. That’s what I consider a bump on Fluther.

eambos's avatar

I didn’t mean to come off so harsh. Sorry!

lefteh's avatar

You didn’t come off harsh! No worries!

Is it the arrow that throws people off? What do you think? How can that be made more clear?

eambos's avatar

What arrow are you referring to?

Skyrail's avatar

if anything, now I’m thrown off haha, what arrows?

andrew's avatar

The arrow in “link” : http://www.fluther.com → link.

eambos's avatar

It didn’t throw me off, but the real problem is that if you try and do a link from an iPhone it always links back to the question, no matter what URL you type in. This might throw people off, and if you fix it I’d greatly appreciate it.

lefteh's avatar

I don’t even see an arrow. I see several spaces between the end of the URL and the linked text..

eambos's avatar

What browser are you using? In mobile safari I can see it.

lefteh's avatar

Firefox 3 on Mac. Google turns up various bugs with the short right arrow entity on Firefox for Mac.

Skyrail's avatar

Ah that one, actually I thought that arrow was pretty cool if anything → hehe

eambos's avatar

—>

How does it work?

Skyrail's avatar

I don’t know actually, I just copy and pasted the one from below.

lefteh's avatar

& rarr;

Without the space between & and r.

eambos's avatar

I have to start using that.

xxxciter's avatar

Its listed under text entry box on your DESKTOP browser = “Style your text!” (not on the iPhone version), along with other options and a link to all of them!

It took me a while to find it and I was using a desktop browser! ;-)

Also, It took me a while to figure out how to reply directly to a previous response = ”@username” (replace “username” with their actual username), I couldn’t find that anywhere!
