Question
What is your favorite breakfast food?
I’m planning a big brunch and want a huge list to narrow things down from.
Answers
Omelettes, grits, bacon, french toast, biscuits with homemade sausage gravy (I have a FABULOUS simple recipe if you want it)... I’m a big breakfast person hehe
one slice of dry toast with peanut or almond butter
one cup of coffee black or with soy milk (then eat again in 2 – 3 hours)
Thanks for your input, lefteh. I’ll be sure to file it away appropriately so I can more easily refer to it in the future.
Oh, pook. I hope you get to experience the nirvana of New Mexico chiles someday. (Not the Old El Paso in the can, by the way.)
@scamp, I don’t know about colon blast, but if it’s done right there’s a third burn involved.
actually I have family in New Mexico. But I don’t like spicy food at all… I actually can’t tolerate it… I have panic attacks. LOL. Also, my cousin told me about the bugs that you get down there and um, I’m going to stay in New Jersey ;)
we were talking about centipedes, and she said there are centipedes down there that are 6 inches long and sometimes they hide in slippers. **shudder** And I’m actually not sure which part of NM.
Good bagels (toast en masse under broiler), cream cheese and quality lox for the lazy cook. All the fresh fruit available now.
@pook, Ahhh. Must be more a southern NM thing. I only see them once in a blue moon.
To answer the original question, my favorite is apple sausage pie. It’s a secret family recipie, and everyone who has tried it loves it.
@uberbatman do they have bagels 4U where you are? I love them!! Especially with the cranberry walnut cream cheese.
@Kev: I have entomophobia!!! What are you doing?! I should really pay more attention to the links I open. lol
My favorite breakfast is Spinach, Mushroom and Swiss cheese omelet, with a side of sausage patties, home fries and sour dough toast with butter and cherry jam.
What do I eat most every morning Raisin Bran or Grape Nuts Trail Mix cereal with 1% milk. How depressing.
For a brunch, I like to make a breakfast casserole. I mix up a dozen eggs with 1/2 c.heavy cream. Then I season with salt, pepper, and snipped fresh chives. I take a log of goat cheese and break it up into pieces. Butter a 13×9 x 2 pan, sprinkle it with the crumbled goat cheese and chives, and pour in the egg mixture. Note: If you will have no vegetarian guests, you can add cubed ham or crumbled, browned sausage or bacon.
Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for about 30 min. (When eggs are just set—test the middle—it is done.)
I serve this with a gorgeous fruit platter. Pick the nicest fruits in season, choosing a variety of colors. Add some special exotic fruits in the center. I like bunches of finger bananas and champagne grapes (both of which are available at most upscale grocery stores).
Add homemade muffins, biscuits, or warm bagels.
Have a wonderful brunch.
@Carla nearly nailed my favorite with the Spinach, Mushroom and Swiss omelet, with home fries and sourdough toast. I’ll substitute bacon for the sausage and orange marmalade for the cherry jam. Gee thanks Carla…now I’m really hungry!
I was going to say something about quiches at brunches, being the easy and elegant version of scrambled eggs, and how you can put almost anything in them, and they take like 5 minutes
but when i saw kay’s answer of challah french toast i got lost in daydreams in daydreams of warm thick eggy strawberryy goodness…oh my….yummy
I love breakfast enchilada casserole. Corn tortillas cut into bite size pieces sauteed in butter or oil, then add enough red or green enchilada sauce to moisten. Then add eggs and either crumbled sausage or carne asada (pre-cooked) and scramble to just done. Bake this at 350 with shredded cheese on top till cheese melts and you hear it sizzling, about 15 minutes (don’t overcook). I like to top it with fresh diced onions and cilantro. Yum. My next fav is Chile Relleno Casserole!!
@ladytmerie That sounds delicious, and I love chile rellenos! Is you recipe for that casserole easy?
oooh, Tiny – I adore lingonberry crepes! I’ve never made them at home, but when I visit my sister, I always make her take me to their local pancake house to get some…
When I’m doing the cooking, eggs benedict is one of my favorites – poached eggs on english muffins, topped with bacon, avocado and rich, creamy hollandaise sauce – yum!
My favourite breakfast would have to be crumpets with butter and vegemite, and then a cuppa tea, preferably Earl Grey.
Oooh, I forgot about the tea – can’t have breakfast without a cuppa… Peppermint is my usual favorite, but every now and then a nice white rose tea is perfect!
Chai is more of an afternoon thing for me – too many spices for early in the morning, but excellent for a mid-afternoon tea break!
egg frittata with bacon, bell pepper, onion and cheese,
fresh chopped fruit
bagels with lox and cream cheese
cinnamon sour cream coffee cake.
My honey likes to have Sardines, with tomatoes and onions and one small piece of toast. I think it is icky, but he likes it and has so much energy from eating it. Oh yeah, he also puts vinegar on his onions. More Ick!!!
bagels, croissnts, coffee cake, fruit salad, quiche, waffles, hash brown casserole, apple smoked bacon, sausage, chorizo
WELL, I love brunch… Personally, I like seafood. You know, mussels, clams, crab legs, etc., also, fresh breads are good. Muffins, croissants and stuff like that. I think most people would anticipate fresh fruit, a starch of some kind (maybe a pasta salad or something), and some meat.
Good luck!
For brunch, anything with eggs usually works pretty well. Maybe some toasted croisannts, fruit. Juice and coffee too.
Can’t believe nobody has mentioned hot steel cut oatmeal with lightly toasted pecans, raisins, cinnamon and chopped apples, strawberries or blueberries with a drizzle of maple syrup or honey. That and a cup of earl grey tea with cream…
French toast, bacon, bagels and lox ONLY if you live in a city with decent bagels and lox, and I have THE BEST recipe for buttermilk poundcake made in a bundt pan that you can serve with berries.
