Question
Askvillans?
Have you weaned yourself off askville completely yet and moved over to the fluther side completely or do you still check in now and again?
Answers
I still check in now and then, but I seem to have lost my enthusiasm for Askville. It’s a shame. I really like the Askville format better, but it now seems moribund.
I do notice that some of the best answers at Fluther come from Askvillians.
I keep getting pulled in with pms my friends there are working hard to make it fun again, but I’m a keeper on this site and facebook it is more fun thank av
I’ve popped over about 4 times for a couple minutes each. I really would like to finish an answer to one question. Other than that, I don’t even have the desire to lurk.
I think the atmosphere of fluther is so much nicer. There is a quick and easy exchange of ideas and interaction.
The people I have encountered have been incredible here. What I’m finding is that this is the kind of site I was looking for when I started up with Askville. I feel like I found my home.
Now, if only real life would afford me more time to play on the computer so I can really get my hands dirty here. LOL.
In all seriousness, I think this is the ideal for my likes and personality. Now that I’ve found it, the notion of going back to Askville is a little like going the idea of going back to flank steak after discovering filet mignon.
I certainly am weaned off Askville! Geesh! When someone invites me to their “dinner party”, then suddenly one day tells me that I won’t be welcomed for a week, when they re-institute their invite then they MUST be told what they can do with it. Frankly, I can’t understand why ANY of the 16 would go back. Hasn’t AV humiliated us enough? My daughter uses AV and asked me why I was suspended! Everyone from AV that I want to reach me can.
Anyway, can someone tell me what happens to the appeals that I don’t respond to (assuming I have any)?
You may all be amazed to learn that there were a lot of great answers on Fluther long before Askvillians joined us. Also, perhaps it’s me, but it seems somewhat rude to spend time talking about another site while on this one.
I agree with Marina, the people from Askville certainly have brought a wealth of knowledge into the collective. But…
I think that’s fair. Everyone here has been more than patient with us. I for one am grateful. True, I came from Askville, but the end result is discovering Fluther. Askville business needs to stay on Askville and those of us who have chosen to opt for the filet mignon need to stop talking about the flank steak. ;~)
Marina is right and wrong. Right in that there were great questions and answers long before this supposed Askville defection (this is the first I’ve heard of it). Wrong in the sense that this isn’t the place to discuss another site – I think this is a valid question (though the question itself could be more descriptive, I digress) even though I’ve never been to Askville even once.
Thanks Marina. It’s great that you guys have found yourself a home here on Fluther, and it’s a shame what happened to you at Askville, but really. Move on. If you’re both a Flutherite and an Askvillian, fine, but don’t mix the two up. I’ve heard enough about Askville.
Sorry if I offended anyone with the question, but I also feel that the format lends itself to ignore a discussion one may find offensive. I haven’t been here that long and I really wanted to know what my friends from askville are feeling. If you are tired of it, I won’t be offended at all if you ignore the question.
Does anybody mind me asking what happened at Askville seeing as I’d never heard of the place previously anyway, infact I’ve barely ever looked for Q&A sites to be honest. ‘tis nice to expand the diversity of fluther even further though :)
I don’t mind the conversations about askville. That is weird since everything usually pisses me off.
A question like, “Why doesn’t askville have a iPhone version?” Will probably make me punch myself in the dick.
A question everyday isn’t a big deal. Anymore then that is going to be irritating.
As far as I understand, a few trolls got loose at askville and started picking fights. Some long time askvillers punched back and they all got suspended for a week and told that they only had one last strike left. They waited to long to do anything about it all got out of control. Some of the great longtime askvillers moved over here, and some of us sometimes askvillers came to visit. I for one like the format here much better. I had stopped answering questions over there and just posting to discussion boards a long time ago. I checked back at askville today and just decided I really didn’t need to go back. I like it here better, so far at least. I feel a little beat up on for asking an innocent question.
I just received word that johnpowell was taken to the hospital for some self inflicted injury, he’ll be fine, just out of commission for a few days and he keeps asking for more ice.
OK.. I did it. I was sitting on my chair. It hurt, but not really bad. I hit myself as hard as I could from that angle. Getting hit in the testicles hurts much more.
I am not joking. I’m that stupid.
Thanks John! I’m sitting in an office giggling like an idiot. 4 people think I’ve lost my mind. Thanks for the laugh.
Kevbo and Skyrail, to answer your question, some of us stood up to a bully and to the establishment that was unwilling to act. We wanted the standard of community and integrity to remain high. The POB weren’t as concerned and told us to make the place better. We did what we could, sometimes sinking to levels of squabbling that were less than productive. A week ago, the POB got off their keisters, swung the pendulum to the opposite extreme and implemented a retroactive zero tolerance policy for some of us and gave us the boot for a week and 2 strikes out of 4 (lifetime ban at 4). Blah Blah Blah. Yadda Yadda yadda. Marissa invited us to come check out Fluther. The gang here went way beyond the call to make us feel welcome, and voila. You all have a bunch of new faces who just happened to also belong to another site at one time.
Now, somebody go get some ice for JohnPowell and a “How to Avoid Testicular Damage for Dummies” book
I’m on both. I like both, I am answering more on fluther, though.
I am answering more of fluther, though.
@mamasu, Wow. Sounds like there’s some boneheads over there. Thanks for filling us in.
@judi, you too!
@kevbo, like I said. Flank steak compared to Filet. I only wish I had realized what I was missing. I popped in here a few months ago and real life hit hard at that time. I had forgotten about Fluther. I’m glad to rediscover it. Of course, life is doing that thing again, so I’m not able to get on as much as I would like. I’ll ride the wave and keep coming back.
@judi Please don’t take my comment personally. Your question was the proverbial straw for me after days of Askville this and Askville that.
Your answers and participation are great. I am glad that you are here and that everyone new is here. It was my personal kvetch about “all right, already, you’re here, so be here.
I am back to Askville every day for about a minute. I like fluther as a new home. I check out two DBs that have nothing to do with anything (rhyming DBs) and that’s about it. I think this is my home now.
I just love the talk here everyone is more than willing to share what they want here and everyone is welcome I love this place and I will not leave.
Poor Ryan’s penis….
@Marina: This growth has been benign compared with some we’ve faced. I kind of feel like we’ve stolen the cream of the crop from another great site.
It seems like Andrew and Ben really want this to work, so as a present to our Fluther gods, who have given us so much, I will overlook the many Askville references, and be as welcoming as I can.
There are however a few other new members I could do without, however.
I’m just starting to figure out Fluther. I “joined” awhile back, but I was accessing it at work and I think our filters were not letting the page come up right….it was just a bunch of lines of ext and the avatars. Today is my first day AT HOME and the site came up like it is SUPPOSED TO and wow!! I feel like such a dumass.
Unfortunately, if I can’t get on at work (you know, at lunch-teehee), then I won’t be able to get on too often.
waterbearer: It’s simple! Askville during lunch, Fluther before dinner, Facebook before bed. :-)
Glad you’re here.
Hi, folks. I’m bran-spankin’-new here. I’ve been meaning to check this out. I think I’ll still be on and off askville depending on the topics and discussions at any given time.
Ok, so this is my first day here; and, yes, I came from “over there”, largely to follow my friends to new and greener troll-less (I hope) fields…Did someone mention Filet?..M, maybe someday we’ll be able to tell them about that hot tub party…
ONce upon a time in the sunny land of AV, (this was BT – before trolls) there was much singing an partying and famous hot tub parties that lasted for days. Mr_M was at the top of his game, to say the least. A real rave, that one. And yes, Blurhinos LOVE hot tubs, the bigger the better! ;)
I guess I wasn’t there soon enough to be in on the hot tub talk. I do remember some rather fun talks that went from “whining” to “wine drinking”. These were when we were ignoring the troll.
cyndyh, you are never too late for the hot tub talk or anything else you just have to type and I’m sure carla or who ever will write back
Ok; just to keep everything in line, we must remember the original post here, so I will address the Q; Yes, I still check in once in awhile, but more rarely. ( this prevents this thread from taking the AV tangent)
Now, we can discuss what will be in the floating bar in the tub, and who will be the bartender. I seem to recall Vacation Boy and Larrsenbaldo as able in that category, as Im sure you all are. We will need some noshes, too.
I’ve been trying Partida Reposado, it’s quite good.
http://www.partidatequila.com/
@carla: Cool. I went shopping today and I’m finally making the first batch of that tomorrow. You folks can help me compare and contrast recipes. :^>
I like reposados the best, but I’ve not yet tried that brand. Maybe I should. huh?
I can bring my accordion and play a rendition of Kung Foo Fighting that will bring TEARS to your eyes!
BTW, the thought occurs to me…I’ve seen people leave AV and ask to have their accounts removed. We’re always told it can’t be done. Yet they certainly can suspend 17 people at a time. Why can’t they “suspend” (but use a different avatar that reads, maybe “Left AV”) the individual when one wants to be removed?
@Mr_M: is this the case with you? I know I haven’t seen you there lately. I missed a lot of what was going on until after-the-fact.
Oops. I guess there was too much tequila because I was thinking about the vodka when I was trying to write “Absolutely”. Umm sorry about that
Hammer, I made you this special chili-cheese dip, that way you can dip as you go and don’t have to worry about the whole tray of nachos sliding into the tub.
cyndyh, I’ll have my Grey Goose a little dirty and cut with saki. It’s a sakitini! The tastiest thing ever! Oh, and 2 olives, please.
Ok I gotta chill out and cool off with you guys, I’m getting killed over on the drunk driver thread…(pun intended) Hey, here’s an idea for you vodka swillers…. plus a lot of other cool goodies on here too. I’ll be jumpin in when I get off work (whenever that is..) Cannonnbaaaallll!!

Judi, et.al., come on down to San Diego. There’s a nice ocean breeze. And there’s still an hour and a half before sunset. I have plenty of towels and snacks.
@Mr)_M I’m impressed I had no idea you were so talented. I thought all you talent was in your lips. :P
Looks like we need a bigger hot tub.
@hammer can you please pass some of McBean’s dip.
@Cyndyh It’s a bit pricey, but it is worth it if you really like tequila. It is a perfect sipping tequila.
@McBean: I love Goose just straight, chilled, and sippable.
@Judi: I’m in Seattle is that north enough for ya?
@BluRhino: We just ordered three of those. What a great idea!
@hammer: You’re welcome. I’ll play bartender any time you want.
@Carla: I love sipping quality drinks. I like tequilas and vodkas. I’m not much for rum, gin, bourbon, etc. I do like a quality Irish whiskey on occasion. I think the last one that really wowed me was “red breast”? It was yummy and very sippable.
Can I just say that Blu always had us in stitches with his advertisements of things – and they were always things we wanted to buy! I miss that Blu!
So who’s got water wings on, who needs a floatie mattress (besides M), who’s fully dressed and who’s not? What’s yer favorite water toy? (keep an eye on M, now) Mind no splashing in the drinks!
Hi Blu! I need floaties on my arms because I’m not such a great swimmer. But then it will be hard to drink my drink, so I’ll need an extra long straw! And I definitely have a bathing suit on! LOL!
I have a swimsuit on and a wrap when I’m out making drinks. My favorite water toy is my fella. :^>
On the ‘00’ thing. I get it now. Sorry.
Well, I will be happy to make an island for strolling on; ( just dont sit on the horn, unless thats your thing; just give me some warning)..I’m sure somebody can walk on the water, ( the waiter?wader? ) or we have inflatable toast mattresses…
Inflatable toast mattresses, huh? I’m waiting for a picture. I’m sure there are some that would like some bacon and egg mattresses with the toast ones. And mimosas! Wait. What time is it?
Waiter! :0)
Hey, maybe we can get autumn one of those cyclists canteens. You know, the ones that they strap to their bodies and the straw wraps up and around their neck to rest next to their mouths? That way she can use her floaties AND drink away!
Man, I leave for an afternoon and I have a back yard full of people partying in my hot tub! Party on!
We didn’t think you’d mind, Judi! Thanks! The water is nice.
Blu – I knew you wouldn’t disappoint! You can have my accessory though…
McBean – what a great idea!
cyndy – I am officially on vacation – I’ll take pinot grigio in my camelback! (only equivalent of four glasses though!) :0)
Um, hammer? I love you to pieces…but you are going to need to change out of your jammies if you are trying to pick Carla up in the hot tub….Heehee!
lol autumn and mr, m you all are just too funny, I was just going to ask carla to face me while we were talking lol
I don’t even know what Bosco is. The last thing I made was a margarita. I’m not sure about you. You’re ok with a Rhino doing cannonballs, but you want to chase away the bartender? What gives?
Hey bartender!! Hi cyndy! I’m ready for a refill of my camelpack. (McBean – you’re a genius!)
Haha! Bosco is chocolate milk syrup, I think. You could add some vokda and call it a chocolate cosmopolitan!
Yeoh. I can do without the bosco, then. If I want chocolate I’ll melt the real thing.
@Autumn: Here’s your camelback ready for the rough and tumble world of hottubbing. :^>
@Blu: I still like Malt-O Meal. I haven’t had in a year or so, but yum.
Mr_M, if you want tops to start coming off you better let the bartender stay, so she can ply all the women with booze. BTW, very funny about the barbed wire, but hammer is just fine inhis jammies, I like docile.
Cyndyh, I’ll take a Bosco Chocolate Martini please. :)
http://i.ehow.com/images/GlobalPhoto/Articles/2204142/ChocolateMartini-main_Full.jpg
If you insist, but maybe I should make you a Godiva Chocolate Martini as well so you can drink them side by side to compare. It might help Mr. M’s agenda, too. :^>
yes cyndyh I’ll have one of those godiva chcolate martini please and carla how about turning around so we can talk face to face…...
ok I’m home from work and I’m ready to party who wants to dance with me in the hot tub? Ok no volunteers well who wants to have a drink with me? What kind of music are we listening to?
If I was still a drinking rhino I would join you for sure- a 64 oz G&T, or a half-gallon martini (full jar of olives) would do it. Some days just leave me feeling that way. But those days are over for me, so I’ll be content to slip QUIETLY into the tub ( no cannonballs) an enjoy maybe some techno-trance-meditation kinda music. Or better yet, some ‘Nam era oldies.
We have snacks, tasty drinks (ice water w/lemon 4 moi ) soothing bubbly hot water, and good music.. converse about anything you want, I’m going to slide over and check out Carlas’ ink…
Haha! Early partiers? or still up from last night?
Anyway, off for vacation! Have a great week! Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do! (and remember, I’m not really a bunny!) :0)
@Mr M: Damn, I guess that’s mine. What was that about telling me the string made the blender work. It did not! Oh, wait. Is this why bartenders aren’t supposed to drink on the job?
@ hammer that’s not true. Your the one that doesn’t share.
@ McBean the cabana boy has the lotion. http://www.nehandaradio.com/zimbabwe/health/hand_body_lotion.jpg
@BluRhino are you enjoying the art work?
@cyndyh OOOhhh! Mojito yummy.
shhhhh!!! carla that is suppose to be between you and I, I don’t want mcbean to think any different of me lol
@Carla: Is this about hammer not sharing the cabana boy again?
@hammer: It looks like your secret’s out. :^>
@McBean: Yes, I know Mr. M is tricky. He’s also crafty. He was voted Most Likely to Make Out.
@Blu: Do you turn purple when the hottub warms up?
Mr. M! Behave yourself a little. :^>
Carla, I was wondering if we could use Blu’s color to tell when the hot tub is ready or too hot.
Not so much purple, ( thats when its colder) but more of a red…But I can stay in a hot tub almost indefinitely, even if I’m alone..but if there is something happening, I might not ever get out. ( with the obvious exceptions)...I am a beast, but not crazy…or is it the other way around??? Hey what are we listening to anyway?
@ Carla, dont take this the wrong way, but if you sit up here on my lap, I can see better; you know how bad a rhino’s sight is…
wow carla you truely amaze me I though the horn was over the top and you just keep going with the punches lol
I hear ya, we are being Soooo polite here, Its like we’re just guests and on our “good ” behavior. They ain’t seen nothin’ yet. (‘cept some of our old friends, who are conspicuously absent…????)
I wonder just WHAT is on your mind, cyndyh! This is a party! we’re just havin a little fun, groovin to the music —whatever it is now, I wonder—and lettin the mind games go and the inhibitions relax for a minute…and somewhere it is written..“What happens in the tub, stays in the tub”...
I don’t think that’s enough to cut it. Yikes. I’ll just stay off to the side making the drinks for a while.
I’m with you cyndyh I don’t want anything on me unless I’m having fun myself so I’ll be by the bar out of the hot tub
Gee, I think that’s the first time I’ve ever heard Aerosmith on the accordion. Mr_M you do a great rendition!
<elbowing in> Mr_M, you can’t make out with Judi while you’re wearing my top! Oh, wait…Carla, is that your top?
You guys know I live by the bartender code. I’ll just make the drinks. It takes a lot to get you cut off as long as I’m sure no one’s driving. No judgments from me toward you, I just don’t want to swim in it. Mojito, anyone?
What ever it takes to do some serious unbending here; I get the feeling like we all (ok some of us) have been/still are ” confined” in many ways; liberation through any means ! Unconditional partying is my motto; anything that leads to unconditional acceptance and love is for me. Lets bring the world together one tub at a time! (Just imagine you’re at Burning Man)...ok im sitting down now
LOL; hope I didn’t spill anyone’s drink while I was jumping up and down ranting; I know they are needed…someone put on some Reggae…
I love you guys. I just…just… you know… love you guys.
See, you said “burning man”. I get it. :^>
Marley, by special request, coming up.
I love you guys now where’s my drink…...hickup…..hickup…..I’m no square I just don’t want to go into the hot tub….what ever you want to do buddies is great by me you can be as free as you want that’s cool with me I’ll just sit in a chair by the bartender it’s cool…it’s cool…hickup…hickup…where’s my drink?
Hey, hammer. Let’s play shot-chess while everyone discusses ointment.
Judi, are you going to spank the naughty monkey?
Um, shot-chess. Yeah, that’s what I’m doing between making drinks and putting the tunes on. Shot-chess sounds like fun.
@cyndyh We need to find some single diva to do that job, My husband frowns on me delivering punishment to anyone else
Good point, cyndyh.
Well, we can engage in a group effort. Pass the monkey, or something like that. I can’t imagine he’d complain then.
@ all of you who are complaining about others talking about Askville: if you didn’t want to be around people talking about Askville, then why did you jump into a Question clearly labeled “Askvillans”?
I left Askville to get AWAY from complaining and bitching, not to jump into another site where the same thing goes on!
I’ve got a terrible feeling that I’m not going to be much happier here on Fluther, so I’m signing-off.
I may or may not see you again. . . .
Pass the Monkey; Toss the monkey, ( I know he’ll LOVE that!) Lets see if I can catch him on a horn…WHosoever is complaining; OUT of the tub! No, belay that..come here… into the middle and get a gi-normous {{{{{{{{{{{{{{hug!!!}}}}}}}}}}}} from everyone… mind, dont crush the monkey, I know he’s in there..check your wallets
Rrrrrrrrrrrtt! I am taking off the Reggae….. (moans)... temporarily, to put on the Chambers Brothers “Love Peace and Happiness”...I know you remember it…
@McBean and BluRhino: Did you have a barrel of monkeys as a kid? We could all link arms and see how many of us could hang off the rhino horn into the hottub. I’m sure we could make a game out of it.
@Mr M: You may want to weigh in when we’re all discussing what’s to be done with naughty monkeys. What say you, sir?
@hammer: No. No. No. :^> Shot chess is played like regular chess except all the pieces have a shot in them. When you take an opponent’s piece you drink the shot that’s in that piece. It’s a self-correcting system. You take a piece and have an advantage until the shot takes hold. So, in a way, your opponent gains an advantage when you take a piece. I do suggest something not too harsh to begin with. Yikes!
@MarshallO: Welcome! We’re in the middle of a long wild party. So far I’ve been bartending and we’ve taken turns with the music. What can I get you?
@cyndyh: do anything you want. Just don’t hurt me! The safe word is “What the #$%^ do you think you’re doing? That HURTS! That HURTS!
@MarshallO: better to be ignored then told “Screw You”!?
@cyndyh, are you trying to torture me? I suck big time in chess and you would win, I would be completely sober no buzz at all and you would be teasing me and having all the fun now if you want to play chess shots and I have a bottle by me while we play….and everytime you take a piece from me we have a drink then I say let’s have at it lol.
In Australia, when they play shot chess and someone says, “Check, mate.” That means they’re done for the night, right?
Hammer, imagine them saying it in an Australian accent…
Just a silly, rhetorical question. Doesn’t need a real answer. :-)
oh ok I see what you are saying now lol see this is way I need it to be 10pm aready so I don’t have my work brain going lol I’m thinking too much I need a break I need a drink bartender where are you where are you I need a drink
It’s Friday, Hammer…Just hang in there a little while longer!
Here, you can have the rest of my martini smoothie for lunch.
@Mr M: We won’t hurt the nice monkey. No we won’t. :^>
@hammer: You see, you’d also get to learn to play better. After I took a few pieces I’d be talking all over the place and helping you out. “Argh! I can’t believe I just did that. I didn’t mean to give you my queen.” You can drink on the side if you want, but I can’t imagine you’d actually feel a wanting to once we got going. In the meantime, how about something with rum and berries?
@thanks mcbean I’ll take the rest of your martini smoothie sounds good…
@cyndyh that sounds good to me I’ll let you drink a little oh I mean play for a little while and this should be fun
@cyndyh;
My husband saw the wild party and yanked me away! He’s pulling me away to vegas for the weekend. I think he thinks this party is to wild even for Vegas!
When I wrote that I was listening to Matt Jorgensen + 451. They’re one of the local bands I saw this past weekend. With the better-known bands, I know I can get their music afterward. If I find something I really like locally and I’m not sure when I’ll be able to get ahold of their stuff again, I try to get it right away at the festival. I just love hearing some nice saxophone, and the rest of the band was pretty good, too. :^>
Another local group I really liked was Lushy. You just get the feeling you’re on a beach in a 60s or 70s spy movie when you listen to them.
I’m still waiting on a few things I have on my wish list -The Black Keys, Band of Horses, Nick Vigarino, and especially Tim Finn.
I’m just not going to come down from this for quite some time. :^>
Hi Hammer! How are you? Still adorable I see! (did you know I collect teddy bears?)
Hope you day is going great!
hey autumn how are you doing? I wrote you a private note about teddy bears, nice to see you on here.
Thanks, hammer. I do love music. My old town never had anything like this, and it’s hard to express how much I appreciate it to people who grew up with this sort of thing as commonplace.
@Judi: How was Vegas?
We waited to late in the day and the weather got bad. we were flying in a small plane and a storm started brewing so we opted to skip it. We are going this weekend though. I think were going to get to see Cher.
Oh cool! I love Cher! I always wanted to see her in Las Vegas. I did go to see her about 6 years ago in Boston on her “Farewell Tour” and she puts on a great show. I bet Vegas is much better, though! Have a great time Judi!
