If I have Wells Fargo, can I make a deposit into my account via a Wamu or BofA ATM? I know I can withdraw and check balances.

That is determined by both your bank and the other bank. Some banks don’t allow their customers to do this as it takes longer to detect fraud when a check is deposited into one of their accounts at a foreign ATM. (Foreign in this case meaning not your bank’s ATM.) For this same reason, some banks won’t accept deposits from non-accountholders at their ATM’s.
