Dangers of "locked elbows" when doing pull-ups and chin-ups?

I read somewhere that when doing pull-ups and chin-ups, having “locked elbows” when coming down can be dangerous and bad for the elbow joints. Is this true? Does this also apply when I just hang on the bar (stamina / stretching)?

No, it’s for when you’re doing PUSH ups or the clean and jerk. Just ask Janos Baranyai!
