What are some good shed treatments for a golden retriever?

Get yourself a good shedding tool and use it often. That’s all I can tell you. Get ready to do lots of brushing. They are great dogs, and all the hard work is worth it. Enjoy your new friend.

Get the FURminator, its an awesome brush for dogs. You can get one at good price from Amazon.com. It helps remove the undercoat where most of the shedding comes from. The key is to brush your dog often, to limit the amount of shedding.

If you get a long haired dog, there is always going to be hair! You may need to think about a different kind of dog if you don’t want to spend that much time brushing it and vacuuming the house, cleaning off your clothes and car, etc.

@robhaya have you actually used the furminator? I looked at them in the store and passed because it didn’t look like it would be worth the money to me.

@scamp. I actually do own a FURminator and use it quite regularly on my Lab/Shepherd Mix. I bought mine from Amazon.com, b/c they have the best price on it. You’ll be amazed how much hair this tool removes and it leaves my dog’s coat nice and shiny.

Thanks! maybe I will get one after all. I have a golden/chow mix, and he sheds twice as much as what the ad you linked to shows. I’ve been using a hack saw blade on him. It works grea, but something with a handle would be nice.

Go to Doversaddlery.com they have shedding blades with a handle might be better then a hack saw blade!!
