What is "Internal program error" 3038,104?

This morning my Norton Protection alerted me that my virus protection had been turned off (somehow), and it wouldn’t allow me to scan my computer. It said the solution to the problem involved me diabling my User Account Control and downloading some “intelligent updater”. The whole thing is very odd and seemed fishy to me. Have I been hacked or some nonsense?

personally I’d be asking Symantec tech support guys for help. They’re very nice and may be more useful.
