Do you think the LHC will find the Higgs Boson?

I believe the CERN facility is looking for the Higgs Boson, amongst other things, and the LHC is looking to create micro black holes.

In case some may not know, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a particle accelerator and collider located at CERN, near Geneva, Switzerland. The LHC is expected to become the world’s largest and highest energy particle accelerator. The LHC is being funded and was built in collaboration with over two thousand physicists from thirty-four countries, universities and laboratories.

When activated, it is hoped that the collider will produce the elusive Higgs Boson particle — often dubbed the God Particle — the observation of which could confirm the predictions and ‘missing links’ in the Standard Model of physics, and explain how other elementary particles acquire properties such as mass. The verification of the existence of the Higgs Boson would be a significant step in the search for a Grand Unified Theory which seeks to unify the four fundamental forces: Electromagnetism, Strong Force, Weak Force, and Gravity. The Higgs Boson may help to explain why gravity is comparatively weak when contrasted with the other three fundamental forces.

If we DO discover it and are able to manipulate it, I wonder how it will change life on earth and how we view our religions on the “Creator” if we can now become said Creator?

Aren’t we confusing the LEP collider with the LHC?

Hmmm. Higgs Boson is predicted, as far as I know, by serious scientists. They’ve persuaded a lot of governments to chip in mucho big bucks (francs, lira, etc). The design has been vetted by all kinds of scientists. I assume quality control is a serious concern.

I think they’ll find it. Or if not, something else that helps solve the puzzle, and explains the mass of the universe, or whatever the hell it is that LHC is supposed to explain.

Once this things up and running maybe my time machine will start to work.

No. I hope not. Where’s the fun in finding something dubbed ‘The God particle’? Surely it will dig up lots of useful information only leading scientests further into their field of work allowing them to sink their teeth into something juicy. mhmmm. yum!
