A good economics text?
I’d like a really good economics text. It should be very readable but not shirk the heavier stuff. I haven’t taken economics courses, but I have a very strong background in math and fluency with quantitative topics in general. In particular, I’m interested in macro economics: how the whole system operates.

“Freakonomics”. In particular it is probably not what you are looking for, but a unique book. It’s a microeconomic look at our pop culture.
A good suggestion, but not what I’m looking for. I read it recently. I’m looking for something more academic (though hopefully no less readable).
Can’t you talk to the Chair of the Econ. dept at UW?
I thought he might be on fluther already.
Economics, Principles and Practices published by McGraw Hill is a very good beginner book. We use this text in high school Economics class. It explains the basics very clearly without too much advocating of capitalism or theories. It is not too densely written and uses a lot of graphics if you are a visual learner.
